Summary
The brownies had been the biggest and best part of the lesson, Milly telling her to have as much as she wanted, and the hours that had passed afterwards, Meryl curled up at Milly’s side warm and well-fed and drowsy, are a memory Meryl returns to in her own bed sometimes, whenever she feels a little lonely.
She hadn’t expected Milly would share their recipe.
Meryl finds herself fighting a little petty jealousy when Milly makes brownies for the office.

Summary
The teapot has as much character as Meryl's typewriter does, the same small chips and nicks of years of consistent use. The floral design on it is certainly beautiful, and she can see why someone like Milly—someone whose mantles and end tables are overflowing with little knick knacks and bits of color—would hang on to something so unique. But every time she sees Milly carefully wrapping a towel around the handle to compensate for an insulator that's worn out, or so thoroughly scrubbing the inside of the pot after use, she can't help but feel exhausted by proxy.
So she does what any reasonable-thinking person would do and goes to the department store bright and early one Saturday—the better to avoid any crowds—and buys a cheery scarlet electric kettle.
Meryl is sure she's doing Milly a favor by buying her an electric kettle to replace her fussy antique teapot. She learns otherwise when she asks Milly to tell her about why the teapot is so special to her. (Milly Week, Day 4: Pudding and Ceylon Tea)

Vash accidentally oversteps Meryl's boundaries about physical touch when he tries to care for her following a bad sunburn. To make up for it, he proposes using a system Rem once put in place to help him navigate his own touch aversion, and the afternoon that follows teaches them both more about the other. And who was Wolfwood kidding, he also thought of this job as an excuse to hang around Vash more often, to see his boyfriend and sneak kisses in the stockroom throughout the day, breaking apart when they would hear the incoming echoes of Knives’ loafers or Elendira’s heels on the tile floor.

Summary
Not that he’s really thought about that. They haven’t talked about what they’re going to do after this; they haven’t talked about much of anything at all. Meryl fought tooth and nail when she realised Wolfwood was taking them both away from the heart of the conflict. She stopped fighting about a mile out, when the impact of the great blast finally hit them, a sonic boom so loud they felt it down to the soles of their feet. From there, it was back to the ruins with the hopes of finding the man who brought them together in the first place, but that had been a largely silent endeavour. Unsuccessful, too.
They found Vash’s jacket, eventually, buried under a piece of rubble, somehow untorn despite the damage it had endured. No wonder Vash could live so recklessly. His coat was bulletproof. Didn’t mean a whole lot when he’d probably been vaporised while wearing it, but the coat itself was a neat relic. Wolfwood had handed it off to Meryl with the implicit request that she not take it out in front of him; he doesn’t really deserve to look at it.
Since, Meryl hasn’t spoken. It’s uncharacteristic of her.
