Summary

Between tense glances, hallway gossip, and the chaos of their students (who seem to know more about their feelings than they do), Effie and Haymitch stumble their way through something that starts as mutual annoyance and somehow becomes… everything. It’s messy, unexpected, soft in places neither of them knew they still had left, and tangled in laughter, recovery, and trust.

Haymitch scowled.
“You’re gonna regret dragging me to this.”
“I already do.”
But her voice was lighter now, teasing. And when she touched his wrist to adjust the folds of his toga, her fingers lingered just a second too long.
He didn’t pull away.

“Oh my goodness,” she gasped, dabbing at his face with gauze and humming disapprovingly. “You should’ve told someone, honestly, boys, I don’t care if you think you’re indestructible, you're not. And this stitching kit is cheap, I told them -- I told them! It was going to fray!”
After almost twenty minutes of muttering curses and careful fingers cleaning his cuts, Haymitch just leaned back in the chair, enduring it. “You always talk this much?”
She huffed. “You’re just cranky because I’m right.”
He didn’t say no.
