Six years. Not long at all, not the way Agatha sees it. Of course, to a kid—to someone young—it’s a different thing entirely. A life, even.
She hates her mind and its constant returns to this stupid arithmetic. She hates this teenager for being a teenager. She hates that if he doesn’t leave her office right this minute, she knows she’s going to say yes to him, and invent a whole new brand of pathetic middle-aged lesbian divorcée.
