Dazai and Kunikida are just trying to solve a kidnapping case at Splash World, Wyoming USA, when some random dogs jumps at them and the owner claims it has ADHD. They find the kidnapped kid, who turns out to be a snobby rich British kid, and then find themselves in a group with the kids with the dog, the snobby British kid, and some thirty year-old man that the kids brought along walking into a random pizzeria. Zoe survives the fight on Mount Tam. Luke does not. But one is left worse than all others.
Percy is left behind, quaking under the weight of the sky, listening to a strange voice trying to keep his spirits up.

Kronos was a sore loser.
When most people lost a fight, they sulked for a bit, maybe burst into golden monster dust if you were particularly lucky, or just started trying to kill you again if you weren’t.
They did not, in Percy’s (quite considerable, he likes to think) experience, start glowing so brightly that it felt like your retinas would never recover before knocking you sound unconscious.

(When you're thrown back in time after defeating Kronos only to have to defeat Kronos for the second time. Percy's life is kind of a cosmic joke.)
