Summary
These locks are harder to pick, clearly purposefully, but she manages in the end. It pushes inwards and she slips a hand out to stop it, mindful of loud hinges.
Then a hand snatches hers and she’s pulled in, spun around and pressed into the wall, a sharp edge held just close enough to her neck that it bites into the skin.
"Drop your weapon," a voice says. "And don't even think about trying to fight me. I will win."
or: Maria's jet crashes in St. Petersburg, and she goes to Nat's safehouse, where she accidentally meets her family and becomes part of it

Summary
One specific item catches her eye. Artisan coffee and doughnuts with girlfriend. Part of it is written in French, so Maria's response is delayed, but once she translates, she can lay her finger on it. "That's easily solved. There's a great coffee place a few blocks from here, and it does good cake."
"Are you asking me out, Hill?" Romanoff's smirk grows and Maria feels it beneath her ribs. She clears her throat.
"Aside from the fact that it would be highly unprofessional, given I'm your superior, I expect your girlfriend would have something to say about that, wouldn't she?"
Romanoff raises an eyebrow. "Girlfriend? I don't have a girlfriend. What makes you think I do?"
"I assumed that the girlfriend was a prerequisite for that item on your list." Maria shrugs, as if she's not burning inside at the way Romanoff bites her lip in thought.
"A prerequisite? How romantic."

Summary
"Is he a lower class? There are easy ways to fix that - your uncle has the power to knight him if he's in his service, and if you've seen him at court he's surely a respectable young man, unless he's truly low staff."
"They don't have a title at all, not truly, but they're highly respected throughout the country," Katherine replies.
"I'm sure your uncle could make allowances. As I said, he could knight him-"
"What if I didn't want someone who could be knighted? Who would have to be secret, but who I would treasure endlessly? Whose ring I would wear on a chain around my neck, and kiss every night, and love in my heart?"
"I'm sure you could manage a marriage as such, if you were willing to leave court in disgrace. There are many Howard girls your uncle could replace you with, if you were happy with it."
Katherine takes a deep breath. "What if I wanted you?"

Summary
This bar is loud.
Like, really loud. According to Mags it's 'the best bar in town' and 'the hotspot for hook-ups'. It was screamed to her over a phone call two days ago, the music in the background and the slur in her best friend's voice making Ann think she was probably there at that point.
She's starting to think that maybe her aunt and sister were right and that dropping out of university to live with her best friend in rural Yorkshire just because her boyfriend was a dick is perhaps a little irrational, and maybe a really, really bad idea. This bar, sticky and crowded and crap, is a reflection of the town.
Damn. She's really regretting this.
"What can I get you?"
Ann's head jerks up from her hand, where it's slumped, to take in the owner of the low voice speaking next to her face. It's the bartender, a tall, dark-haired woman in black jeans and a Nirvana shirt, a grey and black flannel worn open over the top. Ann swallows nervously, ignoring the jump in her stomach. She flashes Ann a friendly smile and repeats her question.
sometimes all it takes is a change of location, a hot bartender, and a couple of ciders.
