It’s difficult at first, but Arthur can handle Merlin having magic. He can even come to terms with Merlin being absurdly powerful.
But the discovery of his own weird preoccupation with Merlin’s magic is just too much.

“When I first learned of the prophecy, they said I was the most powerful of all. Many believed I could have anything I ever wanted. And yet, I never thought I could have you.”
“You can have everything”, Arthur breathed out, holding onto Merlin’s hands as if he would fall to his knees again any second without their support.
“Everything I have is yours. Everything I am is yours”, he sighed out with such a heavy tone as if he had been waiting to utter these words for a decade.
He probably had.

Arthur has had a complicated relationship with Gaius’ new assistant from the very start. You could say they definitely started off on the wrong foot after Merlin confronted him in the courtyard for tormenting Morris during his knife-throwing practice. Merlin had been cheeky to the point of insolence and courageous to the point of stupidity, and Arthur had thrown him into the dungeon with utmost satisfaction after fending off Merlin’s hilariously bad swing. Frustratingly enough, Arthur hadn’t been able to stop thinking about Merlin after that.- Language:

After all, it’s not the alpha who chooses the omega, but the omega who chooses the alpha, and Arthur really, really wants Merlin to choose him.
