And Impulse hated the thought of that.
or, a glitch in the server causes Impulse's conscience to split, he falls into a coma, and faces the true extent of his feelings for his soulmate. All in that order.

“Whats the party for? You get another kiddo?”
Max freezes, then his smile drops slightly.
“No. The 2025 championship.”
He says it like a fact, and Daniel feels his heart sink. He hadn't followed Formula one, blocked all the old accounts, but surely he had promised Max he would keep tabs on his stuff. One look around the inside of the room makes him feel even worse. Each wall is plastered with obnoxious ‘2025’ and ‘WDC’ scrawled all over.
“Oh fuck, I- congratulations, I had no idea.”
Max smiles at him, eyes hardening as he speaks again.
“There are drinks in the kitchen.”
Daniel grimaces, reaching out to ruffle Max’s hair.
“Not for me Maxie.”
It's a line that reminds Daniel that he too has changed, and perhaps they have finally become incompatible. Perhaps now he can finally say goodbye.
“Orange juice, not alcohol.”
Or, the fic where Max invites Daniel to his 5th WDC party and Daniel says yes.

Max would sigh dreamily, like he wanted Yuki to agree, head against the rolled-up window, autumn rains hammering against the other side.
They’d added George-san to the triad of conversation topics for two, right after driving and food.
Max, some B-list actor with a single point left on his driving license, gets hopelessly infatuated with his coworker, main lead of the series he's filming, tall and unfairly handsome George Russell. Yuki, his (now their) assigned driver, gets out of the experience a front-row seat to Max's misery, and maybe a headache or two.
