Ever since the end of the Fourth Shinobi War, Sasuke has been wondering. Returning to the Leaf was the last thing he wanted to do, and without anywhere else to go, he was forced to just walk.
He did just that. It wasn't bad. Boring maybe, but everything felt boring after what he'd been through.
He would've kept walking too if he hadn't encountered a familiar Raven haired man that shouldn't have been alive. One that he'd seen die twice already. One who didn't remember Sasuke at all.
One Uchiha Itachi.

Ah, mind the tags...graphic, violent, messed-up. Still something recognizably them, and it just adds to how twisted it is. Feels very...In a mirror, darkly. Equally vivid in the stuff it shoves in your face, and the stuff it only suggests at--just fascinating, makes you want to stop and stare, though I wouldn't want to have it stay in my mind space for too long. AU where Itachi is brought back by Sasuke to Konoha, and they live together happily (?) ever after. Except, not.
Have read this...so many times. The scenario described in the summary doesn't come obviously into play for most of the fic--it's Itachi-centric, kind of slice-of-life, calmly making his way through life in a village that hates and fears him and his brother. He schemes, he lies, he misdirects, and he smiles--because while he might not have any chakra, he will protect Sasuke's life and happiness, no matter how volatile his brother becomes. Both of them are....morally grey, let's say. Mostly non-shippy until the last couple chapters. This fic is basically the basis for most of my Itachi/Sasuke relationship headcanons, and the first fic that got me obsessed with this pairing. Itachi who bends and bends and never breaks. Sasuke whose hunger never quite eclipses his love.
Always, your brother listens to you. But sometimes he listens with defiance, and other times, with sacrifice. If you ask him to let you go, he will take a katana to his very hand and and sever it. It does not mean he can release his grip.

Summary
