Summary
By their second year of high school, Ron was just Kerner and Tom was just Kazansky. In college, they became Iceman and Slider. Ice, for his natural talent and eerily cold play calculations on the ice. Slider because once he slid into the net during practice. Slider played (read: fought) well enough to warrant keeping him on the hockey team.
Slider’s problem with stupid Maverick Mitchell involved Ice. He licked Ice’s face.

Summary
" Stacee has turned to face the stage so Willard mirrors him, sipping at his barely alcoholic drink, the first he’s had all night. He’s still not overly enraptured by the performance on stage, and because Stacee seems to be a master at reading people, he leans into Willard’s ear so they don’t have to shout and he asks, “This not typically your scene?”
Willard laughs, “What gave me away, the cowboy hat or the hick accent?” Stacee whispers, “Both,” his breath ghosts over Willard’s ear and it makes chills rise on his skin in an instant, a tingling sensation passing down his spine.
Stacee’s voice borders on a purr as he continues, “More than that, though, you seem almost…bored.” Willard laughs again, scrubbing at his jaw, “I don’t know about bored.”
Stacee exhales, something soft, but the ghost of warm air over Willard’s neck has him suppressing a shiver where he stands. “Well, you sure seem far more entertained to watch me than you do with the music.” "

Pete sips his lemonade and glances sideways, heart tripping, throat suddenly dry.
Tom’s still talking. One hand gesturing lazily, the other resting on his belly, fingers tapping the curve of it like it’s a rhythm he’s known forever. His cheeks are pink from the heat and his massive calves are dotted with grass clippings, his long weird toes are sticking out of his dad sandals, and Pete is completely, catastrophically gone.
He wants Tom to crawl right into his space and kiss him until Pete forgets how to spell his own name.
Not because he’s lonely. Not because it’s convenient. But because Tom — chubby, patient, exhausted, stubborn, brilliant, sweet as hell Tom — is a fucking dreamboat.
(Or, Pete is an engineer who makes wheelchairs for kids as he raises a kid of his own; Tom is an English teacher whose kid needs a wheelchair — they kiss, a lot).
