Summary
Life as the Chief Cultivator requires Lan Wangji to represent himself at many formal occasions, with a wide range of audiences - some more sympathetic than others. He doesn't enjoy that side of his work particularly, but he accepts it. He has never before given a lot of thought to the burden that places on husband.
Wei Wuxian has always gotten by being different things to different people, but that can be exhausting. One night he is too tired to work out who he needs to be, and so he asks his husband.
Lan Zhan helps his husband dress, not to be anyone else, but to become another shade of the same man he has always been.
