Marisol has never done this, Eddie thinks, suddenly and without intending to. He blinks, startled by his own intensity, but it’s true. Marisol makes conversation with Christopher and joins in on activities that he and Eddie do, but it’s not— this. Not the undivided devotion that Buck is demonstrating, that Buck demonstrates, over and over. He could be anywhere right now, but he’s here, with a worksheet on literary devices in front of him. Is that not why Eddie chose him, went down to the city court after a lightning storm to meet with his lawyer? Because no one else has been there in that capacity? Because he trusts no one more?

“I haven’t seen you all night,” Buck whined, pressing his face into Eddie’s cheek, and shit, he smelled boozy.
“We were together all night!” Eddie protested, pulling back to look at Buck. He was still incredibly close, and Eddie could feel an unwanted flush prickle at his cheeks.
“Tommyyy.” Buck exaggerated the last syllable of the name and stepped closer to Eddie once again, who was now cornered, and oh.

Summary

Old fire lookout towers have been going up in flames with no explanation, and Dirk's particular form of mystery-solving is required. When they get there everyone assumes they're a couple, and for the sake of their cover they don't correct them. Eventually they have to start actually faking it, and Todd's feelings for Dirk ignite.

He grinned; all teeth, split lips. Wicked. She remembered that smile, and the icy, glinting eyes to match. “Why do you think? You’re ashamed of your past, more than you’ve ever been. The worst thing you can imagine is them – your little friends, that is – finding out the truth about you, and so here I am.”
“My worst nightmare,” she said, a cold smirk playing at her lips.
The Dream Lord is here, and he's wearing a familiar face. Fourteen of them, in fact. Meanwhile, Ryan, Graham, and Yaz take a trip through the darkest reflections of the Doctor's past friends, and are forced to face the truth of the person they are travelling with.
