Once Joseph’s fingers strike the keys, bringing to life a familiar tune, the audience jumps a little, surprised by the intensity of the first notes. Realizing that’s their cue, they’re fumbling to move down the aisle. During the two bars Joseph needs to sustain a chord for, Joseph shoots Caesar a smug smirk as if to laugh at him, but the Italian can’t find it in himself to bring the ire that fueled him during their first meeting, this new revelation stunning him.
The tension rises during those two bars before Joseph’s fingers move on.
The world seems to fade out, leaving nothing except the vision and sound of a man dedicated to his instrument.
