Summary
Merlin has long survived off the poignant and often slender hope that Arthur feels the connection between them at least a fraction as keenly as he himself does. Hope that the man cares more than a master does for his servant. Hope that his existence matters to Arthur for more than just chores and entertainment. That his callous attitude is truly just a front for genuine affection.
Having his hope validated so blatantly out loud is something Merlin could never have anticipated.

Summary
Something was wrong. There was no physical evidence of any scuffle, but even under the low gleam of moonlight, Arthur could see how exhaustion was writ over the slump of Merlin’s shoulders and the hunch of his spine. He dragged himself over to Arthur’s bedside and collapsed into a chair, bringing with him a familiar scent of peppermint. The painful, uneven breaths grated on Arthur’s eardrums, and just looking at him made Arthur’s heart clench in sympathy.
After the battle with Nimueh, Merlin isn’t faring too well. Arthur tries to help.

Losing my mind this one is so good. The writing is perfectly in character and keeps everything moving and suspenseful without being rushed. Hurt me in the best way and then smoothed over the bruise lol.

Summary
Arthur knew what his men got up to, their travels could be lonesome, and anyways, their chastity vows only applied to women, if you wanted to be specific about it. Fine. It wasn’t his business.
But it was certainly his business when it was happening in front of his eyes, and with his manservant, no less!
