Summary
Charlie Spring had to be dead. He had to be.
He had disappeared a year and a half ago, walked into the woods with just a knapsack and vanished into thin air. Some say he had family problems, or was out of his mind, or had been relentlessly mistreated (Nick, sadly, knew this one to be true) and no longer wanted a part of life in their small, coastal village. Some even said he was a - Nick could barely think the word - a witch, and had gone off into the woods to conjure dark forces and torment the villagers from afar.
But now, a whole year and a half later, Charlie was just - there. Gathering mushrooms in a clearing like nothing was amiss.

It’s hard to be left behind, to be the one who stays. To be the one who moves forward.

Everything seems simple until you start thinking too much. Why is love intensified by absence?
Long ago, men went to sea and women stayed behind, standing at the water’s edge, scanning the horizon for the ship returning. Now, I wait for him, not knowing where he is, unsure if he’s okay. At least now, men don’t have to long for other men in secret—for that, I’m grateful. When he is here, we don’t hide. We love loudly. But when he's not, when the solitude of my thoughts is my only company, the truth comes crashing down: I am always the one who waits. The moments stretch into years, eternities, seconds slow and transparent as glass. Why has he gone where I can't follow?So I wait.
Or, Nick is a time traveler who can’t control where and when he goes. When he meets Charlie, a man he has never seen before, everything Nick thought he knew changes in an instant.

However, when his parents decide to drag their family to some resort out in the middle of nowhere in the Catskills the summer before he leaves for college, and he meets a handsome, cocky playboy dance instructor... Well, he might learn a few things about himself and what he really wants for his future...
(Loosely based on the movie, Dirty Dancing, but without the creepy 15/30 year old age gap and much more gay.)
