The most awkward thing about it all is the stupid Get Out smeared across the wall in bioluminescent garbage, along the far wall across from the entryway, prominent in its placement. Handprints are peppered beneath it, dragged down as if through blood. If it wasn’t so overstated, so fucking cliche, maybe it’d make his stomach turn—or maybe it wouldn’t. It’s hard to tell these days, the things that hit his hindbrain versus the things that don’t.
“This,” Nicholas says, gesturing at the wall, “is embarrassing for the both of us.”
The thing haunting the house doesn’t have a name that he knows, and Meryl hasn’t given one if she’s privy to the information. So it’s just the Haunt, and Nicholas, and the desert that’s hiding them both.
The Haunt drags a hand-shaped force through the faintly glowing text, spiteful in its delivery. Underneath it, something else begins to come alive, the letters bigger, the strokes broader, two fingers wide instead of one.
Get. Out. Underlined for emphasis. Circled to make a point. And beside it, a frowning face with angry eyebrows—a child’s threat.

Wolfwood is a man of God, living to serve or whatever. And maybe there’s a small, self-sabotaging piece of him that doesn’t think he deserves to ask for things, to make requests. Desires stay lodged in the back of his throat, so habitual now that he forgets they’re there.
Yet, when Vash asks, “Nick, what do you wanna do?” he doesn’t know where to begin. He wants Vash to consume him, drown out the rest of the world so it’s just them. He wants Vash to fuck him, to reduce him to the same blubbering mess he makes Vash. Yet, that nagging part of him reminds him that he doesn’t deserve it-- he has no right to ask for anything, especially not from Vash.

You haven’t spoken with anyone about this, not even Kim. You run a lot of things past Kim, but for once you just wanted to branch out on your own with this one. Even though Kim’s experience would probably be incredibly valuable here, more so than anyone else’s.
He’s half the reason you’re doing this in the first place. Well, more like 90% of the reason, but you’re still pretending he hasn’t fast become the centre of your little universe—you’re too chicken-shit to put a name to it, too fearful that he might yet become another apricot-scented tragedy.
On the bed in your room you’ve laid out an outfit…waiting, accompanied by a yellow printed flyer, an advertisement for the club you want to try tonight. You’ve had it hidden for as long as it’s been in your possession—too shy to take that final step.
But you’re doing it tonight, you’ve decided. You stand, once your work is done, in front of the mirror and look at your new face with renewed determination.

In the beginning you dream about a shard of light, illuminating the path ahead of you. It wavers; sometimes it’s unbearably bright and warm, other times it struggles. It takes you longer than you would like to admit to realise that it always relates to him. When he has a good day, your dreams are steeped in gold. When he flirts along the edges of relapse, the light isn’t quite there, like a faltering lightbulb on the brink of burning out. He stumbles in the waking hours and you stumble in the dark.
Little by little he is becoming something in your rote routine, breaking it apart in a way you aren’t quite prepared for. You’re frustrated by it, by how quickly he had such a hold on you. You’ve never needed another soul in your life.
You’re beginning to need him.

It’s not what Kim says but it’s the way he phrases things; like he already knows the answer to them, and the way he holds a demeanour of careless interest that makes him seem far from the slightest bit bothered about being proven right or wrong, because he doesn’t ever lose either way. He stands there now, with the smoke between his fingers perched in front of his crotch, waiting for you to do what you both knew you were going to do from the moment he suggested it.
You get on your knees ungracefully.
He must get tired of being right all the time.
