Carol doesn't talk to many people. She didn't before, but that was because she was in a floating metal box in space. Here, in New Orleans, she has no excuse. And Kamala noticed.
So, she rolled up her sleeves, and got the closest person who knew what Carol felt like, since he was also a former brainwashed weapon now fighting against his former captor. Also because he was (sometimes) in the same state.Yes, that was her reasoning for showing up at the Wilson family home looking for Bucky Barnes, and in her defense, it was airtight logic. She even brought a cat!!!
