Summary
Bucky Barnes doesn't believe in Santa Claus, but he does believe in extraterrestrials. When he encounters Jolnir, an alien with great power who is also known as Santa Claus, Christmas Eve takes an unexpected turn.
“If you could have anything this Christmas, what would it be? Anything at all.”
Bucky shoved his hands in his pockets. The question stirred something in his chest that made it difficult to breathe. “What I want, no one can give me.” He turned around and started walking quickly away. If the man followed him, well… He didn’t want to end up on the news for beating the pulp out of Santa Claus, but it might just go down that way.

“Like some, I don't know.” Bucky waved his arms around a little, shoulders slumped as he tried to gather his words. “Experimental therapy machine thing or something.”
“Experimental?” Sam didn’t hear anything about this. Ever since he was working closely with Bucky, someone always seemed to be updating him on all the changes in his schedule or treatment. It annoyed Sam somewhat (and Bucky a lot) because it made him feel like Bucky’s handler, and that just made him feel sick. So, he would know about some weird experimental therapy machine thing, as Bucky so eloquently put it, even being developed. “What does that mean?”
Bucky sighed again (he was always sighing at Sam). “I don’t even know, Sam. It’s just some weird therapy thing the government is making me try out because ‘traditional’ therapy wasn’t working out.”

The government makes Bucky test an experimental therapy machine, it malfunctions, and Sam and Bucky are trapped in his mind with his bad memories.

It reminds her of being a kid again. Of clinging to her big brother’s legs in hopes of stopping him from escaping the house to school or to play with the other boys in the street. Back then, Bucky would crouch down in front of her, promising that he’d be back soon and they could play together then. He’d never lied to her, always coming back to her at the end of the day, usually with Steve in tow, and telling her all about the adventures he’d had while out.
She wants to make him promise again. Promise to come back to her and tell him all about his “adventures”.
But Bucky can’t make that promise this time, and she can’t ask it of him.
