    Pearl shrugged with the indifference of someone who had already resigned herself to the situation. “Mom says we’ll be fine. The new school’s got good programs. She even looked into the student council or whatever you’re always on about.”

    Tango's stomach plummeted as he felt a sting leap across his arms, pain coursing through him. He didn't need to look up to see who he'd injured, but he did anyway.

    Despite it being over four years since the death of Hotguy, Scar still lives day-to-day with the damage from the incident, unable to work through the trauma from the systemic abuse of the hero committee due to his glorification of his Hotguy days. Cub, his manager and best friend, reaches out to a ghostwriter to help Scar publish a book about Hotguy and the failings of hero culture.
    The ghostwriter, Grian, has been running from a painful past for the last few years, hiding himself and spinning his life into one of medial routines in a desperate attempt to feel normal again.
    Perhaps together they can help solve each other's traumatic past-identity deaths.

    The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.

    “I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”

    With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.

    This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.

    “Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

    Grian is a vet. After a chance encounter in the dead of night, during which he accidentally saves a villain from the brink of death, he suddenly finds himself entangled in a world beyond anything he could've ever imagined.
