Silence had no home with you. It had long been retired to days past. At night, when it was supposed to be quiet, the sound of Johnny’s low snores were a steady rhythm that lulled you to sleep. Nights without him were never noiseless either. The hum of traffic outside the apartment window, or the symphony of nightly creatures living in the dark prevailed.
Quiet. Noiseless. Deafeningly still.
They had no home with you. They never would.
Yet, the phone fell from your hands as the buzzing silence took over your thoughts. Tunnel vision as you felt static in your ears. You knew that Mrs. MacTavish was bawling on the line, blubbering and wailing her sorrows to the heavens, but you heard nothing - just pure silence.
