He was pretty strait-laced- only drinking from time to time with his friends, having no questionable moral tendencies and would generally be considered a good citizen (except for the whole toilet paper roll thing, that doesn’t count).
Which is why Phil simply couldn’t put his finger on a reason for the situation at hand. The situation being him finishing an exhausting twelve-hour shift at St. Ruby’s Hospital, and returning to his apartment complex, only to find the building on fucking fire.

Phil M. Craft is an ordinary nurse, who somehow ends up in a strange apartment building, full of very un-ordinary individuals when his previous house burns down. Turns out his neighbours are a lot more than "mafia".
(Or, SBI Vampire AU where humans don't know vampires exist and they are all extremely powerful menaces, who are fond of Phil for some reason. Also vampire politics and action.)

Aimsey lurches forward as their gut does the same, lighting Ponk’s lemon tree on fire. Boomer gives them a grin, striking his own flint and steel, watching as the brown bark quickly catches on fire- bright, orange reflecting in their eyes.
Was she still there?
Back in the lava-lit quartz pocket of hers in the side of the hill?
Would they still be visiting the town-hall, talking to the air, waving their goodbyes to figments of the past?
Or would they have gone home- one of the myriads of portals they’d made, finally lighting up with a glow not unlike the raging fire that burned before Aimsey’s eyes right now?
“Was this a mistake? Should we have done this?”
They weren’t too sure if their question was aimed at Boomer or themself.

The brunette- Wilbur- glanced upward, towards the ceiling, as though hoping for divine intervention. Unfortunately for him, the only thing he was getting was Tommy.
“What brings you here then, Mr. Soot-Craft?”
“Pissing off Schl- Mr. Schlatt.”
“The economics guy?”
“That’s him.”
“Whachu do?”
“Deez nuts joke.”~~~
Or where Tommy and Wilbur end up in detention together and Wilbur grows fond. Unfortunately, the kid may or may not have gotten himself two sentient parasite brain-roommates.

The boy’s head snapped up at breakneck speed. His room? Surely, he misheard. Surely. There was no way that they had a whole separate room for him. Unless it was like a closet. Yeah, that was it, it was definitely a closet of sorts that was cleared out for him. (He tried to ignore the twinge of disappointment he felt. He felt nothing. Absolutely nothing. Nothing.)
The door swung open and Techno’s eyes widened. It wasn’t a closet. It was an actual, modestly sized room, walls painted a creamy white, with a singular light hanging from the ceiling, casting a warm yellow glow on a wardrobe, a desk and a bed. He even had a bedside table. With a night lamp.

Or, where Phil fosters what he thinks to be a "problem" kid but instead ends up with a defensive... creature who may or may not be older than him and his sons combined (the religious trauma and PTSD are a bonus).
