    James feels his stomach twist like the path of a dagger in the hands of danger. He hates how effortless it looks. Hates the way the tide of students seems to bend around him.

    They reach a doorway. Will throws it open without breaking stride, then lets it swing back- straight into James’ path.

    James jerks back just in time, the heavy wood skimming inches from his face. His pulse spikes, hot and sour. Will doesn’t even glance back. Nobody says anything. Not Mikey, not Ieuan, not the cluster of kids nearby. The world just keeps moving, like it’s nothing.
    And James hates that most of all.
