Summary
Looking away, he asks, “Will you be there?”
It’s a useless question when he already knows the answer to it. When he knows it’s Pete’s duty to be there just like it’s his own to go through with it.

“I’m right here, sweetheart, I’m not going anywhere, I promise. I’m right here.”
God, it’s- a strangled laugh jumps out of him before he can stop it. It’s so fucked up. It’s Kazansky. His soulmate is fucking Kazansky.

Summary
“Hey, buddy,” he says carefully, crouching to get closer to the boy’s eye level. “What are you doing here, hm?”
“I’m sorry, sir,” the kid says, still polite but also quieter now. “Do you know where Admiral Kazansky is?”

Summary
“I don’t care about closure, I care about my brother!”
“Your brother is gone! He’s gone, Seokjin, and you need to accept that.”
-
He makes it all the way to his apartment, to the bathroom and to the first aid kit under the sink before he feels the urge to cry. The drive was so quiet. The apartment is so empty. There’s no one here to yell at him for being stupid and help him take care of things.
Hyejin won’t pick up. Namjoon is gone. Jungkook can’t know.
Or; Life swings and rarely misses. Seokjin knows how to take a punch and make himself get back up, until the killing blow strikes him. Resurrection is a hard and lonely process, but there's light to be found at the end of the tunnel.

Summary
“What the hell are you doin’ here?” Tom demands.
Mitchell peels away from the wall and shrugs. “Oh, y’know. I was just in the area and thought I’d check out what this middle of nowhere was.” Tom scowls, but Mitchell ignores it and rolls his eyes. “Obviously I’m here looking for you, idiot.”
Or, after Top Gun, Tom goes home. Pete follows.

Summary
1986, Miramar, CA
As far as naval air stations went, Maverick only had good things to say about Miramar. And the only good thing was that Commander Metcalf didn't bounce Mav as soon as he did something stupid. Oh, wait. No. He wasn't a commander anymore. Fancy pants admiral over there.
Maverick returns, as a favor, to teach at TOPGUN. His students are great; they're some of the best naval aviators in the world. One of them is all legs, gorgeous tanned skin, blonde... Just his type. Maverick had a problem.

Summary
If he’s honest with himself (and he rarely is, when it comes to this) a secret part of him can admit what he won’t ever say aloud: he’d get on his knees for Pete “Maverick” Mitchell for far less than the promise of quiet weeknights.
