The lights suddenly seemed brighter and Eddie could feel eyes on them. Moments later, there was more distance between them and Eddie kept his attention on the bottle of beer in his hand as Karen came back to join them once again, Hen not straying too far behind.
Ignoring the look Buck gave him, Eddie forced a genuine looking smile as he told the two women about how things had been in Texas. More of their group came back as Eddie was talking, asking questions every now and then as well.
When Eddie admitted that firefighting hadn’t worked out in Texas, Buck put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. If you didn't know any better, you might think that Marius was exactly who the media painted him to be: player, cold CEO who maybe cared a bit too much about what other people thought of him, craving validation to furthermore inflate his already huge ego.

“-ius. Marius, are you with me? Can you look at me?” Marius couldn’t instantly place the voice of whoever was talking to him, however it strangely made him feel safe. As if on autopilot, he uncurled his body a bit and turned his head, the tear-blurred outlines of Artem’s face entering his vision. Normally Marius would probably recoil or try to hide, not one to appear vulnerable to others but it felt different this time. Artem hesitantly raised his hand and although blurred, Marius could recognize the questioning look on the attorney’s face. It was a small nod, barely visible but it was all Artem needed to carefully wipe the tears off Marius’ face.
