Chapter 7: Entry 7: Teleportation

Chapter Text

Teleportation is a mystery to me. Beetlejuice does it constantly but I have no clue how it works. At first it seems easy to understand. Someone moves from one place to another instantly without having to walk or fly there. But the mechanics of it are way more intricate.

While the concept is easy, how Beetlejuice actually teleports is the real question. Does he have to see where he is teleporting? He doesn’t seem to considering sometimes he will teleport away mid conversation and I will not be able to find him. Which is extremely rude! He needs to work on his manners. I really do not enjoy it when we are watching movies sometimes and he gets close to Barbara and I before suddenly disappearing. I wonder if he knows how much we miss him when he disappears…

Maybe he has to have already been to a place to teleport there. That would make a lot of sense. That would explain how he teleports around the house without second thought. Or maybe he just needs to visualize what the place looks like. I wonder if he has ever accidentally teleported into a wall. Is it possible to teleport between an object or will his powers not let him?

Update: It is possible to accidentally teleport in between an object. According to Beetlejuice it is the opposite of fun though. The tips of his hair turned yellow when I asked and he seemed to feel very awkward. Considering that even Beetlejuice didn’t think something like that was fun, it must have been very painful. I wonder how pain even works for him. I’ve seen Beetlejuice cut off his hand before for “the bit” and he didn't even bat an eye. I really hope he doesn’t feel pain like humans do. Or even like ghosts do.

I’ve noticed since we died, Barbara and I both have not felt as much pain as we normally would have as humans. In a way it has sort of dulled. I still feel pain but not to the extent I did before. I’ve stubbed my toe many times but only let out a small yelp where as before I would have screamed and definitely not have fought back tears. I’ve seen Barbara burn herself on the stove but she simply lifted her hand off, it throbbing slightly. The only time I’ve seen her in real pain since we died was when she was… nevermind. I am not thinking about that. I am not thinking about her screams or the tears or the pure terror on her face or…

I should go downstairs and spend some time with her.
