CHAPTER 2 - SPARKLING SHOCKS
00000
It was a few hours later that Sam is leisurely driving the new car he bought, which he didn’t know that it is an alien robotic-being in disguise and going to unknown parts somewhere, that got the Autobot wondering about it silently, letting the human drive him so that he wouldn’t notice anything strange about the disguised-vehicle.
Bumblebee discreetly listens to Sam as he mutters to himself over something and seemed to be fiddling and looking over a small paper note he grabbed out of the backpack bag, the human only carries on him while being really careful to keep his eyes on the road so that he wouldn’t drive and cause an accident.
“Seriously…we don’t need this much, don’t we? I can understand that we need extra provisions—precisely food and water—for all of us. But—what the heck do we need a stereo for?!” Sam muttered in bemusement and puzzlement. “If I didn’t know any better—I think either Mark-Wing or Sun-Riser must have added this into the list as a joke or something. Wonder how Dare-Wing or Night-Rave are going to react when they find out about it? Knowing Night-Rave—she won’t hesitate to throw them straight into detention when she knows about this.”
Bumblebee was very confused and wondered why Sam was so secretive about who his friends are—considering that he figured out that this young human seemed to be talking in some sort of code, upon listening and hearing the strange type of names he said in his self-conversation—though he didn’t think more on it and decide to figure it out later, as he just let his human Sam drive him to Primus-knows-where.
It wasn’t long until about a few minutes later that Sam stopped and parked by the corner side of a slightly full parking lot of a small supermarket, near the exit for a quick get-away if needed. Bumblebee noticed this when Sam took out the wallet from his bag and locked the car firmly with windows shut before he left for the market.
It was the next thing that suddenly happened, inside the interior of Bumblebee’s alt-mode, that stunned him into silence and his frame froze like it’s been struck by lightning when movement occurred inside the human’s bag and came out of hiding like it knew that its’ caretaker is gone and wanted to come out and play in the car.
Bumblebee was completely flummoxed and shocked upon registering the unexpected being inside his own alt-mode, while the human Sam went off to buy groceries at the supermarket.
((What the Fra—Primus!? A Sparkling!?)) Bumblebee exclaimed in his native Cybertronian language through the radio, minding his cursing, and startling the little robot being from the slightly loud outburst that suddenly blurted out from the speakers.
The little robot fell back right on its butt onto the seat and chirped in surprise, making the Autobot realize his idiotic blunder, but then he became relieved when the ‘Sparkling’ started clapping its little servos and squeals cutely like it was excited to play a new game with its new friend, that is the car.
When it chattered and chirped in its cute voice, begging for Bumblebee to play, he was focused on studying the sparkling.
It looked to be small—a bit abnormal from Cybertronian standards--about the size of a human toddler, but built and made similar just like them and it looks like the Sparkling’s alt-mode is what appeared to be a portable human laptop, that it scanned for itself.
When the young Autobot scout was about to study and inspect more, he noticed that the small bot is about to cry upon being denied or refused on playing with it, with liquid about to pool up in its optics and whimpering sounds, Bumblebee quickly played with it by doing a guessing game with its radio, playing various tunes of music, to make the Sparkling guess which song it is and it beamed with delight at this game and played, much to Bee’s relief.
The Autobot knew better to keep his cover and not draw attention to himself when there might be humans around to notice the sparkling, and he couldn’t help with the Guardian protocols that suddenly came online, the moment the little bot revealed itself to him in his interior. But then Bumblebee had a sudden thought that came to him, and he wondered how his human charge Sam knows about the Sparkling and how he came to be with it.
Just then, it wasn’t long until the very one who’s going to answer his mental questions about it, as Sam swiftly returned from grocery shopping, placed the plastic and paper bags filled with food and other necessities and supplies in the back before moving to the front.
The Sparkling pouted when Bumblebee abruptly turned off his radio but then it perked upon seeing Sam and quickly hid into the back like it’s ready and exciting to catch the human off-guard and surprise him.
When Sam started the car and drove back onto the road, something happened that suddenly surprised him out of the blue when the radio started playing by itself, but in a broken way as Bumblebee discreetly inquired to him about his newfound discovery in the Camaro.
“Yo-yo-yo! —STATIC—What you got there, bro?—STATIC—Houston, we got a—STATIC—intruder alert!”
Sam blinked in confusion when the radio acted up strangely like this, playing and sounding its different music tunes and somewhat familiar movie or TV phrases, as he slammed a hand at the side of the radio like he’s trying to fix it by hitting it.
“What the?! What is up with this radio?! Maybe I should have it fixed or—?” he muttered before—!
“Peek-a-Boo!” chirped the sparkling behind him and Sam yelped comically upon hearing it and nearly swerved in the road—which almost got the disguised Autobot to try to take over control in case they’re going to crash—but Sam quickly calmed down and got the wheel under control before he swiftly looked back wide-eyed at the stowaway behind him.
“What the—?! LapTech!? What are you doing here?!” he exclaimed incredulously. “Did you—did you follow me in here again!?”
The sparkling—that is designated and named from what Sam said—LapTech chirped and trilled as if proud to do it.
Sam sighed and reached back with one arm to grab the sparkling and put him into his lap in a fast movement so that he’ll drive on the road without losing focus and eyes on it. “You little sneak...I thought I told you, again and again, to stop doing that. You’ll get the others worried when they find out you’re gone.”
LapTech purred as it snuggled comfortably to the chest of his caretaker.
Bumblebee noted that the Sparkling is also listening to the human’s heartbeat, like how the little bots always do when it comes to their carriers or caretakers. It looked like Sam isn’t going to be truthful and forwarding since he got the little one comfortable on his lap, but the disguised Autobot noticed that Sam is driving straight to what appeared to be a secluded isolated area where there are only abandoned warehouses there, which he noted upon researching through the Internet, it’s sometimes rare for humans to throw away or discard their storage units to save profit or something.
Then Bumblebee figured that this must be the place that Sam and his sparkling charge are staying and living in, and even though it looks very desolate and abandoned, he could see that the Sparkling was well-cared for and healthy. That and he saw that the Sparkling also has additional human caretakers looking after him besides Sam when he noticed that three of them had come out from one of the warehouses and went to greet Sam when he stopped and parked the car.
One of them is a girl and she appeared to be Sam’s girlfriend of sorts, while the other two looked to be the leaders of whatever gang-group they’ve formed, and both of them seemed to be very displeased over something, specifically at Sam. And the reason being for that—is actually the lost sparkling, that Sam knew is the very cause of it.
“I’m really sorry!” Sam seemed to be prepared to face them for it as he came out of the car with the sparkling LapTech still in his arms, sleeping and dozing comfortably as he said softly to them. “I didn’t know that LapTech would follow after me and sneak into my bag when I left! Honest!”
One of the two leading boys, who appeared to have a physical build like he’s a born flyer, didn’t seem to believe him but he held back his stern scolding when the girl went running to hug Sam around the neck like she’s relieved that he came back alright and then crooned softly at LapTech as it dozed on without being disturbed by them as they conversed.
The other one who is also another leader looked to be accepting of Sam’s apologies and smiled understanding of his plight as he gazed amused at the still-sleeping sparkling in Sam’s arms.
He said calmly, “It’s fine, Sam. When Sun-Riser and Patch-Up raised the alarm about one of the little ones missing—I already figured out who it was and had Hacks confirmed it by tracking your signal when you left hours ago. The others were relieved to see LapTech was with you by then.”
Sam beamed as he freed one arm to wrap around his girlfriend’s waist. “Thanks, Knight-Drive!” but then he flinched when the other boy glared at him dangerously and snapped at him harshly, “Don’t think you can just give thanks like that, Lightning! The only reason why I held back from tearing you apart—was only because LapTech likes you!”
The one who’s code-named Knight-Drive soothed his friend gently, “Calm down, Dare-Wing. As you can see, Lightning took care of LapTech and they returned safe and sound with no trouble at all, right?”
Sam—who is called and nicknamed—or rather, code-named Lightning—nodded vigorously and he blushed when his girlfriend giggled.
“Oh come on, Blaze!” he whined, thinking that she’s not on his side and was having fun of him being in trouble.
“Sorry, Lightning, but—I couldn’t resist, seeing how cute you look when you’re like that!” she said between giggles humorously. Sam pouted at her before he looked down at the sparkling in his arms when he felt it stirring awake.
He smiled warmly when it gave soft chirps and peeps then it rubbed one of its servos to its optics before blinking them wide open awake and then squealing and purring cheerfully to greet its caretaker and the others gathered around it. Then it went shy and snuggled against Sam’s chest, trying to burrow its face to hide, which made them chuckle amused at the sight.
Bumblebee watched this calmly in his alt-mode, also smiling internally at the sight before he almost jolted in surprise and tensed when there was more noise that came suddenly from the warehouse that the other three humans went out from.
Bumblebee nearly glitches right there and then upon seeing so many little bots—the Sparklings! —come out from the hidden building, followed by more young-ling humans, who are their caretakers and guardians too.
If he were in his bot form right now, he knew that his jaw-plates would be gaping open and his optics in their widest setting in stunned shock upon seeing the little batch of small robots.
All the Sparklings ran right at Sam’s legs like they’re very delighted to have him back and he almost stumbled and tripped over his feet from the sudden ambush but managed to stand still while they crowded around him, chirping, trilling, and chattering with their many cute voices.
Then Knight-Drive managed to usher the Sparklings to get off from Sam and that he needs to do his other tasks, like bringing in the groceries he bought for them, which Sam flinched, feeling like he knows that his duties are not over yet. Blaze reached out to take LapTech from him and Sam handed the Sparkling over with the little bot not giving a sound of complaint from being separated from his favorite caretaker.
Sam went into the car to drive it inside the warehouse they had been hiding in and Bumblebee let him take control as he surveyed the surroundings, in protective Guardian mode suddenly, to make sure that there are no weak spots around the area, as well as plotting mentally on how to sneak out and send a message to his leader about this new development that he discovered upon his mission over the human Sam.
While Sam slowly drives the car to get into one of the abandoned buildings, Bumblebee nearly vibrated with smugness when another human—code-named Mark-Wing—marveled at the racing car with praise and congratulated Sam for somehow buying it at a cheap bargain price.
But then, Bumblebee nearly felt his spark run cold and his whole frame froze still when he noticed that one of the humans—who was the one designated and code-named Dare-Wing—was staring at his car alt-form suspiciously with narrowed eyes, just as Sam found an empty spot by the slight side corner of the building to park the car and make it easy to drive it out exiting through the same path he had entered.
If the Autobot scout didn’t know any better…he would’ve thought that this human was a Decepticon in disguise, with the way he’s looking at him with such a cold dangerous calculating expression on his face.
“Hey, Lightning…” Dare-Wing asked after staring at the yellow race car for a silent moment. “What’s up with this car?”
Sam hummed to the sparkling in his arms when he came out after parking the car, and Blaze handed LapTech back to him when it reached out its little arms for him to hold him. He blinked at the strange question, turning his head to him.
“Huh? The car? I just bought it from a bargain car shop a while ago since we needed another vehicle for transportation and escape. What about it?” he asked.
Dare-Wing stepped closer, inspecting, and studying the vehicle intensely.
“Because…there’s something very strange about this car.” He said after a chilling moment of silence.
Sam blinked more confused at this but the other human called Mark-Wing snorted and said aloud. “Quit being so suspicious all the time, Dare-Wing! Honestly—if you keep this up, you’ll even think that there’s something strange with your own car, buddy!”
Dare-Wing swiftly rounded to him and snapped vehemently. “I have every right to be suspicious of anything—including my own car, Mark-Wing! Don’t you remember what happened the last time?!”
“Whoa, whoa! Let’s settle down now…” Knight-Drive said, coming over to stop an incoming start of a fight between the two guys.
Bumblebee was glad that this human leader Knight-Drive managed to placate Dare-Wing that there isn’t anything wrong or strange about him when he’s in his alt-mode. Knight-Drive pointed out that Sam/Lightning would have spotted the fact quickly if there was anything weird—he wouldn’t have bought and brought the car into their hide-out. Despite that, he figured it out instantly, that his human and the other Sparkling carers must have other encounters with other Cybertronians—specifically, the Decepticons—from what he heard.
The Autobot scout wondered how these young humans managed to escape and got out from the evil bots alive as he didn’t see much that they’re formidable to fight and defend against them. He can see that they’re somehow unbelievably capable to take care of the Sparklings but—there’s not much in an appearance on how well they fight and how they do it.
However, he decided to figure it out later and put it off, and he watched forlornly in his car form at the Sparklings when Sam and the other young humans play and take care of them, wishing mentally that he could join in and participate, but he knew better than to blow his cover and not reveal himself to the humans too soon, even though they are devoted and protective to their sparkling charges.
It wasn’t until night came and Bumblebee patiently waited until he sees all the young humans and also the little Sparklings fall asleep in deep slumber inside the abandoned building, that is their secret hiding place from other humans.
Though there is one lone watchman, who is the one called Mark-Wing, Bumblebee was a little relieved to see that he’s sleeping on the job and calculated that he has enough free window to leave and sneak out to send out a message to his other bot comrades.
It was very tense and nerve-wracking to slowly transform into his bipedal mode without making noise, instead of driving out in his alt-mode, but he can’t risk the chance of doing that, just so he would confirm the suspicions of one of the humans—namely Dare-Wing—and raise the alarm that they have an intruder in their midst.
One by one, Bumblebee carefully tip-toed as silent as he could and carefully opened the main doors where he had gone through before, without as much as a creaking sound and then slowly sneaked out of the building and getting himself as much distance as he can without anyone hearing before he transforms into his car alt-mode again and drove on out of there to find a spot where he can send his message to space and notify his leader of the Autobots.
It took about two to three hours long for the Autobot scout to find a good place and the right spot where he can transmit his space message, and Bumblebee did quick work into sending it out straight to his team before he swiftly drove back to the humans’ and Sparklings’ hide-out so that they wouldn’t notice that he’s been gone. Even though he knows that they’re asleep and won’t wake up in the middle of the night, the racing-car bot didn’t want to take a chance on that, so he came back as fast as he can.
He made it just in time before the planet’s sun was about to rise and signal another great morning of the new day, and Bumblebee carefully sneaked in just like he did before and transformed back into alt-mode as the racing Camaro, but unfortunately, he overlooked one simple detail that he forgot and it was too late to rectify his mistake.
For the mistake that he just made as he sneaked back in—was that he parked himself in the wrong position!
Bumblebee almost stiffened in his car mode and tried to hold back his frame from trembling, when Sam registered over the way the car was parked on the corner, blinking in confusion as he woke up first then the others who are still sleeping.
He kept blinking and tilted his head a little to the side, looking almost cute like a confused puppy dog.
“Weird…I could’ve sworn the car was parked…” he mused softly.
Then Sam shook his head as if he must be imagining things and then went to open the main doors to let the car out.
He shouted over to whoever his friends are up and now waking about, and told them that he’s going out for a drive and going on another supply-run again.
One of them, who were awakening from their sleep—the one called and code-named ‘Shadow’—heard Sam’s shout and yelled back in confirmation and promised to tell the others that he’s gone, to those who don’t know yet, and Sam nodded satisfied as he went into the yellow car and drive.
Bumblebee wondered how the Autobot leader and the others will react once they get the message sent by him, as Sam drove him out from their hide-out. And he also wondered how fast they’ll fly down arriving in the planet Earth, so that they can be able to join in and help Sam and his human group into looking after and taking care of the Sparklings, before Decepticons or enemy humans find out of their existence.
Boy, the young scout, and the other Autobots are in for a big surprise when they see how Sam and his human friends are very protective and defensive for their small charges if that happens, and how formidable they are to fight against their foes.
