Suspicious Collaborations

“Caleb! Can you help us with this?”

Jester and Essek were tinkering with something, and Caleb had long since learned to be suspicious of such collaborations. Still, he wandered over and was immediately presented with a box.

“What’s this?” he asked, arching an eyebrow at them.

“Open it!”

Jester smiled sweetly, and Essek was hiding behind his Shadowhand mask. Suspicious… Nothing good could come of this, but they would pout if he said no.

So he inspected the box thoroughly. He was no Veth, but he had a good eye and searched for any tampering or playful traps. He met Essek’s eyes before pointedly casting detect magic as well, just in case.

He found nothing. No hidden spellwork or tiny mechanical triggers. The box looked normal and unassuming.

Well okay then. With that out of the way, he tried to open it, only to discover that the lid wouldn’t move.

It was a puzzle, and suddenly he was quite excited. He dove into the process of trying to solve it with determined focus and before long, he heard a click. Euphoria filled his heart as he opened it.

A cloud of glitter exploded in his face as Jester cackled maddly.
