Chapter 71: Epilogue

Summary:

In which the adventure ended. However it doesn't mean the world is at peace.

What if an end is simply a new beginning ?

PS for those asking, the Epilogue begin at the beginning of year 2, aside from Enji waking up two weeks after the final fight.

Notes:

I want to adress several special thanks.
Endgame wasn't a one man thing and I honestly think no writing should be done alone.

- Mirrond, for motivating me to write in the first place.
- Aliandris, who always had good advice for me and suffered as my beta reader for a time.
- Kagenekem, with whom I had some crazy brainstorming.
- Ernand, who was my main Beta reader. Big up to them.
- Drako Mage, for his insane fighting scenes.
- Boys, whose comments always made my day.
- Darkscliera, for the same reason.
- The Jaded server as a whole.
- Mad Mystic's server as a whole.
- The Church of Aiko as a whole.
- Syber Space.

To all of you, you have my deepest thanks.

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Epilogue

When Enji woke up, his first thought was that he was going to punch his father again if he was in the white room with the door.

Instead, he felt a weight on his knee. This… Was weird. He was pretty much certain he should have lost most of his sense of touch considering Exegol…

Then, he felt pain everywhere. Not a mind-numbing pain, but Enji had been hospitalized enough times to know he was probably under some drugs. This was the third strange thing. He was on drugs. He was pretty sure he needed a body for this to work.

“What… Happened?”

This promptly woke up Natsuo, as he was the one on duty during the night. It allowed him to stay at the hospital, sleep a bit, and then do some overtime with Madam Sako. It worked wonders for him and allowed his family to rest a bit.

“Don’t move,” Natsuo warned as he took a small lamp to test Endeavor’s abilities, checking for brain damage or anything else.

His father’s reaction time was weird. Probably because he just woke up. However, considering his body, Natsuo doubted that. Endeavor’s career as a hero had ended.

“I am…”

“Alive and now with a body. Sadly, we still aren’t sure about your brain.” Natsuo snarked. He hadn’t forgiven his dad, unlike most of his family. He didn’t hate the man much anymore, however. He still wasn’t invited to his wedding, but he would maybe allow him to check on his child.

“... Shouldn’t I be dead?” Endeavor didn’t compute how he was alive.

“You can, weirdly enough, thank the Ashen King for that. The current theory with our quirkologists is that two living quirks fighting each other cancelled both of your ascensions.”

“And he…”

“He got killed by All-Might’s successor and the Sako kid.”

“And the remains?”

“Destroyed on an atomic level by the western crime boss. He then fucked off.”

Enji sighed, part of the stress leaving his body. Thank god. It was over. He felt… Lighter. Way lighter.

“Don’t think you are safe, however. Mom and Nedzu want to have a word with you. But more importantly, Fuyumi and Burnin’ are currently working together on the best way to yell at you.”

“... Fuck. Can you wait a few minutes before warning them?” The man was pleading. Natsuo smiled madly at him. He showed his dad the message in the family chat to warn everyone, and several “OMW” messages appeared.

“... I am going to die, aren’t I?”

“Painfully, after a long life. Don’t you ever dare pull that shit again.” Natsuo warned his dad. Enji sighed but nodded with difficulty.

—-------------

Katsuki and Yui sighed. They were not the most useful during the Mt Fuji battle.

However, on the bright side, as the battle injured and also killed quite a few heroes, the Young Hero Squad was getting more and more practical experiences.

Translation: Yui and Katsuki had many dates, which consisted in them dropping in one of the few CRC HQ still existing to say hello. They still had that contest about who would get the most bad guys, and the loser had to treat the other to a date.

Bloodshed and broken bones, but both wouldn’t have it any other way.

Their duo even got a nickname in the news: the destructive duo, The Zone Fighter Duo. While Miruko was officially their mentor, they were now taking classes with Godzillo and his firm on how to brand themselves on Tokusatsu.

—----------

Monoma walked through UA’s gate just in time for the beginning of the second year. Thanks to Senator Armstrong making sure he was correctly educated during his rehabilitation, Monoma managed to pass his exams despite being technically absent for the second semester.

“AND WE WELCOME BACK OUR FAVORITE IDIOT!”

When Monoma opened the classroom, both classes were inside of it, which left him astonished by the spectacle: balloons everywhere and Itsuka in the forefront, smiling with all of her teeth.

They.. He had missed them too. He was almost on the verge of crying, but he did the heroic thing. With one hand on his face, fabulousness activated, Monoma took the pose.

“OF COURSE! I WASN’T GOING TO LET THE 2-A WIN!”

Itsuka slapped her favorite idiot with a hand, and to her surprise, it hurt her hand. Monoma’s face turned black for a second before going back to normal.

“How did you do that?”

“NANOMACHINE, GIRL!” Monoma laughed while his mentor and Pony stood in front of him. He bumpfisted the American girl, who gave it back.

“Thanks, Monoma. Uncle said Thanks to you, his dream is getting closer to completion. Colt makes every quirkless equal…”

“And Armstrong will make them equal to Quirk.”

Izuku thought about the situation and noticed something.

“Wait. Isn’t that the plot of that one evil guy? If everyone is special… Then no one is?”

Yuga slapped his friend over the head before Tooru had the time to do it.

“Don’t call l’oncle de ma petite amie Syndrome.”

Everyone in the classroom laughed hard as they were all happy together.

—-------

Nighteye stared at his intern.

“This… It is actually good work. Excellent compilation. The strategy was flawless, and your improvisation on the field allowed for no casualties on both sides.”

Tomura nodded. He knew his cursus had been a weird one. It was hard to imagine that one year ago, he was one of the most well-known vigilantes in town. Now? He was interning for Nighteye and was often lent to the cops for their raids. Turns out that having someone with a deep understanding of the criminal mind and with a quirk allowing him to bypass most walls and defenses was invaluable for raids.

Nature hated void, and the disparition of so many criminals during the Battle of Mt Fuji made a lot of foreign criminals take the opportunity to install themselves in a place ready for the ripping.

The CRC was pretty much all that was left of the old guard and the hunt for Purifier, confirmed alive considering he kept trying to blow up water supply and heteromorph shelters…

Tomura’s alarm activated, making him jump. Nighteye threw him one of his stamps, which Tomura caught and put calmly back on the desk. Now, All-Might’s former sidekick smiled. Good, he was always on his guard and knew how to adapt his reaction. Not to dust immediately everything thrown at him.

“Mirio had been very right to recommend you.”

Tomura nodded, smiling. Lemillion was a rising star among the Japanese heroes. The vacuum left by All-Might and Endeavor’s retirement was slowly being filled by some of the old guard standing up to the challenge. No undisputed #1. In fact the position was highly contested between Gang Orca, Wash, and Miruko. Their competitive streak was insane, and it dynamized the whole industry as a result.

“On a side note, you wouldn’t happen to know about this compound of former HPSC elite agents trying to prepare a coup who were brutally murdered?” Nighteye asked his current student and was happy to see actual surprise in Tomura’s eyes.

“I… Don’t know anything? I should?”

Nighteye shook his head and gestured to Tomura. “I was checking. Go see Nejire, otherwise, she will wreak havoc in my office again.”

Tomura exited the room by the windows, caught up by said Nejire, who stuck her tongue playfully at Nighteye before kissing her boyfriend.

Nighteye stared at the pictures… Several bodies were hacked up to pieces. As if a certain hero killer was now back in business despite being officially dead after Balor’s attack.

—-----

Hinata sipped her wine peacefully. She felt her age very suddenly. Despite looking good, she was actually old. She was in her 60s despite her constantly saying she was in her 50s. Her nephew, blessed by his heart, never called her out on that. She was happy to be the godmother of his future child, and it was more than enough for her.

When she rose to that position a bit more than a decade ago, she had to deal with a corrupt organization, people wanting to corrupt heroes and destroy what justice meant. Now? They weren’t nice guys, but they were actively doing their work to save the world.

She felt the sword on her neck and smiled.

“Hello, Stain. How was the mission?”

“As usual,” Stain said with the same expression as Hinata before pulling away the sword. “I am waiting for the next order.”

Hinata closed her eyes. “I don’t have any more targets for you.”

“HOW?! THEY WERE SO MANY CASES!” Stain jumped immediately but noticed the pile on Hinata’s desk. Everything he did more or less secretly for her. Everything his new team did.

“You were very enthusiastic, Stain. To be honest, at this point, your existence is something that helps the HPSC stay on the right path. Because everyone knows that if any shady dealing is discovered…”

“I am coming.”

“The stained ones, so everyone else can stay clean.”

Both stayed silent. Stain was faced suddenly with something weird.

“... I have… Won?”

“Well, paradoxically, since All-Might and Endeavor are now gone, every hero is gunning to be the new Pillar of Justice. They fail to understand they are becoming Pillars. The HPSC isn’t covering anyone's trace anymore. We do have some issues.”

Hinata pulled from her desk a new pile of files.

“We discovered several heroes who are high enough in the ranking to try and manipulate the media and the public to minimize their actions.”

“... Are you asking me…”

“Stain? Would you like to be the Hero Killer again?”

Hinata was old. She felt the weight of time on her shoulders every day. But she would leave a clean state for her successor.

Stain’s smile told her everything she wanted.

—--------

Loony was smiling as she officially obtained her teaching license. Now, she would be Aizawa’s sidekick for torturing the kids. Everyone feared their lessons with Aizawa whenever the words “Practice with weapons” were mentioned.

Hell, the only one who wasn’t scared was that one student in front of her. The rising star of the third year because of her beauty and skills.

As everyone had been neutralized by her and Eraser Head, she was the last one standing, two knives in her hands.

“So, you are actually approaching instead of running away?” Loony cackled madly, readying her hammer.

Toga answered in kind, throwing herself with a spectacular speed and grace.

“I CAN’T STAB YOU IF I RUN AWAY!” Toga had the time of her life as she was fighting her best friend/big sister. Blows were exchanged, and all the other students stared in awe. Toga’s physical abilities were purely natural.

As a result, she had a special teacher to make sure her bloodlust was in check and to make sure her skills would be of a higher standard. Technically, two, because it was a pair. One was totally not a former criminal who got a special pardon, and the other was an otter.

Everyone quickly learned to actually fear the second one when they noticed the Zone Fighter Duo, known for having the same respect for authority as Miruko, actually politely saluting her.

Eraser pointed at the screen. “Who can tell me what mistake Toga made?”

Everyone blinked at Toga, who seemed to have the advantage during the fight. She made a mistake?

A smarter-than-average student raised her hand. Eraser nodded at her.

“She trusted your briefing?”

“You get an A.”

Tamaki smashed from the ceiling and attacked his girlfriend while sighing.

“Tamaki! You have my sweets?” Toga was bubbling now, and she answered by closing in the distance, seemingly dancing with the Shapeshifting Hero, Sun Eater. One of the members of the Golden Trio. Thankfully, there was no audio feed, and no one except for Loony would know about Toga using her flirting to destabilize Tamaki, who answered by unleashing more and more attacks with Loony.

Sure, Toga would poot afterward, but that was when he would give her sweets. It was the best way to get forgiveness and hugs after all.

—--------

Purifier was contemplating his laboratory. In front of him was a woman unlike anything he had ever seen. She came from nowhere, but she had been their salvation. Her strength was absurd. Her knowledge was insane.

“Do you need anything else?”

The woman blinked all of her irises at the same time before making her hair short because she wanted to. She was resting for a bit, her hands on her belly.

“No, thanks to you, my child. I am just making sure our Salvation is going to be fine.”

Purifier had to admit she creeped him out. However, thanks to him, his soldiers had stronger and stronger quirks. She somehow knew how to reinforce them or even create new quirks for them.

Quickly, she became a figure of power in the CRC, claiming that Humanity had only one form… Her form.

Purifier smiled as he closed the door to their hope to save Japan.

Praised be Humanity, wife of the Overhaul and future mother of Salvation. They would remake the world in their image, pure and perfect.

—--------

Compress, well technically Majestic, was standing on the top of the rooftop with Gentle. “So. What’s the target today?”

“Today my dear… We are helping the Americans. They managed to track down a contraband center. If they are correct, it might contain the Architect or at least one of his main bodies.”

“Actually, I confirm he is here.” Their communicator activates in their ears. “I saw him a few seconds ago.”

Hina was still as skilled as ever for infiltration. Both Levelers smiled before preparing themselves for the raid.

“We do as usual?”

“Me as the main attraction, attracting everyone’s attention…” Gentle said, while his body buffed a bit more

“And me doing the trick,” Compress added, turning into a marble to be thrown by Gentle during the mayhem.

There was a reason why they were rising in the ranking fast. Because they were FA.BU.LOUS.

Also, Compress kind of needed that money: he had three children to care for. Their latest addition to the Sako household, Nana, needed the best. Now, they should do the job correctly so he could get back to his family and take care of them with all of the love they needed.

—------

“More, big sister! More!” Eri was flying in the air in the Sako garden. Izuku smiled as he stared at Tooru, lifting Eri easily in one hand, making her seemingly levitate in the air. It was perfect.

He was in his second year, with a beautiful girlfriend and a ton of friends. Hell, the 2-B even got a new student, the short one who almost managed to eliminate him during the Sport Festival. Mineta Minoru. Izuku was actually about that: He clearly had potential with his smarts, grit, and guts.

Monoma immediately adopted him as his friend, and together, they plotted to bring the 2-A to their knees. Not that it would be easy.

He had more cards than before… Also, thanks to his sponsorship, he had all the cards he wanted. He still went to the Den of the Drake to see his old friends. As time passed and most of them got their life together, the shop seemed a bit emptier but when everyone was there, it was more fun than ever. Tomura was still known as that goddamn munchkin. Shouto was losing badly but with a smile on his face. Bakugo yelled until he was hit by a silence card and … And…

Izuku simply felt bliss.

He still had things to do on his list, however:

They still needed to find Purifier to save Kurogiri

There was a strange cult based on science and the Doomsday quirk rising in Japan, made of the remnant of Humarise.

Balor was still at large.

He truly wanted to test the limits of Endgame: Were alternate dimensions real?

When Tooru hugged him, Izuku kissed her back.

“Something in your mind?”

“No. Simply happy. We had a crazy first year and… As weird as it may sound, I think Balor was kind of right. Everyone definitely wanted to win last year, but permanently. All For One. Geten. The Ashen King. Balor was the only one who w

anted the game to continue, and he is the only free one.”

“So your point is…” Tooru led him on before sitting on his lap.

“We have work to do. But it’s okay. Life's an adventure and the meaning, it’s to live it to the fullest.”

The end.

Notes:

Did someone read Claymore ?

Something the author wrote stuck with me :

The heroes don't have to deal with all the issues in the world for the story to end.

The world is alive and will never be peaceful. It's a good thing because it's boring otherwise.

The world lives and Izuku will have more adventures. You may imagine them. I would like to read them if someone is insane enough to try and write that.
