“What are you doing here sir?” Robin asked the man in front of her.
“There's no need to call me ‘sir’ Robin, I am no longer your teacher.” The man said.
“Fine! What are you doing here Tom ?” Robin corrected with fake exasperation.
With laughter in his voice Tom said, smile wide, “I’m here, Robin, to see you graduate.”
Robin stood slightly shocked for a moment before she regained her voice “ Oh , thank you.”
“You needn't sound so surprised, you were one of my best students of course I would want to see how you’ve gotten on.” Tom said, smillering reassuringly.
Before Robin could say anything else however, Steve had finally found her. “Robin! Robin there you are, we've been looking everywhere. You were amazing!” As Steve said this he pulled her into a wholehearted hug, having not seen Tom he was rather surprised when he realised Robin to see him standing there. “Mr Hauser?” He questioned.
“Yes that’s me, but please just call me Tom.” He replied, very confused at Steve and Robin’s whole interaction.
“Right. It’s nice to see you again Tom, what are you doing back, I thought you’d escaped this hell hole years ago?” Steve’s closing remark caught Tom off guard, who would've thought Hawkins very own Steve Harington would dislike the place so much, he thought.
“Oh no I’m not back, I’ve just come to see my old students graduate.” He said with a fond smile at Robin.
“You must be proud then? I for one am very proud of Robin here.” Steve said affectionately, messing up her hair.
Robin batted him away as Tom said, “Very much so,” in answer to Steve’s original question. “I don’t mean to be rude,” Tom continued, “but how did you guys become friends?”
Steve and Robin glanced at each other, before promptly bursting into laughter. Steve composed himself first. “ Yeah I get it I was a bit of an asshole…”
He was interrupted by Eddie who had decided that at that moment he must intervene. “Bit of?”
“Yeah, Harriginton there's no bit about it, you were a giant asshole.” Robin chimmened in, still giggling slightly.
"Is it gang up on Steve day because I feel very ganged up on." Steve said, mock upset.
"Oh but you make it so easy." Eddie teased.
"Let me remind you Munson," Steve said trying to keep the smile from his face "that I'm the one who's driving, and I might just leave you here."
"You wouldn't," Eddie said sarcastically.
"I SO would."
"Well in that case" Eddie elaborately bowed, "I must extend my warmest apologies, if I have offended you king Steve Hairington." Eddie finished with an equally elaborate hand flourish.
"Did you just say Hair-ington?" Steve asked.
"It is the only thing that could ever do your hair justice." Eddie grinned.
"Fuck of Munson." Steve shot back, not even attempting to keep back his smile.
"Make me." Eddie said definitely, begging Steve to take the bait.
"Oh, maybe I will." Steve replied and with that they were off walking with their heads tilted close to one another, too close to be 'just friends' Tom thought having watched the whole exchange.
Tom and Robin watched the boys walk off, quietly Robin started to talk so that if anyone was listening in they wouldn't be able to hear. "I think he might be my best friend." The two turned to look at each other. "Is that sad?"
Tom could see the vulnerability in her eyes, he smiled again reassuringly."only if your dad." Robin looked away and smiled slightly. "Are you happy Robin?"
"Immensely so." She said so simply yet so meaningfully. "It's been a better year for the gay's of Hawkins."
