Chapter Text
You know that feeling where you think you’re falling while asleep and you suddenly wake up? I think it’s called the hippies jerk? That’s what falling into the pit feels like…except it goes on forever
(A/N: it’s actually called the hypnic jerk…)
I tried looking for a something to hold onto but everything was dark, in fact the only thing I could still see was Annabeth.
A look of fear was glued to her face, and I doubted I looked any better, but maybe because of that I grabbed her hand tightly as we fell deeper into the pit.
After what seemed like 100 hours, but was probably 3 or 4, I heard water.
I knew I would probably not have any control here but what else have I got to lose?
So I raised my hand and tugged on the invisible string that I felt, and the water rippled.
Gritting my teeth, I pulled harder and suddenly we were caught in probably the COLDEST water I’ve ever been in.
That was the first thing I registered. The second was that I felt completely exhausted and honestly what was the point.
“Percy!”
Is that Annabeth? Does it even matter?
“Percy-Don’t let go!”
I felt my body being tugged to the side and pushed out of the cold water.
Annabeth and I gasped for breath as if we’d decided to sprint a marathon.
I slowly get up, “Thanks, I owe…oh my gods”
Imagine a lasagna that’s gone bad two weeks ago… that was what this place looked like.
Great, we were gonna die and I’m about to puke. (A/N: me too homeboy).
I looks at Annabeth “Are we in-“
She nodded, “Tartarus.”
I winced in pain as I got up, I looked at my legs and arms only to see shards of glass imbedded in my skin, my throat hurt every time I took a breath, the air was like acid.
Annabeth didn’t look any better, her hair was a mess and she looked ten shades paler than she ever had.
“What do we do now?” Sue me, when Chiron said that this would be a dangerous quest I didn’t expect us to land in literal HELL!
“I don’t know…”
“Then what are we supposed to do?!” I was getting angrier for some reason, kinda like when we first met Ares.
“Hey don’t take out your stupidity on me Waterboy!”
I narrowed my eyes at her, “you saying this is my fault?”
“Isn’t it? I told you not to go near the hole, but who needs to listen to me?!” If looks could kill, I’d be dead right now with the way Annabeth was glaring at me.
“I didn’t think we were gonna get sucked in!”
“You didn’t think? Of course you didn’t think!”
crkcrkcrk!
I turned my head towards the noise, Annabeth was still yelling at me.
“Shut up.”
“Excuse me?!”
“No really! I heard something!”
That snapped her from her anger, she pulled out her knife, while I reached for Riptide off the ground.
The acidic air is making it hard to see, but as I blinked, trying to clear my eyesight I see at least 100 legs.
“I’m going to die from a giant centipede.”
