A Crisp Morning

Summary:

Dain was only out for a morning run when he realized he was not alone...

Work Text:

Hey! It's been awhile!

Yeah, I'm still Xaden x Dain trash.

I fell off a bit because Iron Flame did not deliver, wasn't living for it.

But I still love this ship, so I want to keep supporting it!

The winter air was crisp and filtered, cooling Dain’s skin, outside on his usual morning run in the field. There was a long and windy dirt path that other cadets would also use, but on this morning, he was alone. Perhaps his comrades didn’t want to bear the fridged weather, but he didn’t mind it as much, so long as it didn’t suddenly rain.

The dirt path stretched along the outskirts of the field, leading into a small pine forest. The old trees stood high, the branches naked and blackened from the cold. As Dain continued his run, the trees would begin to cluster closer to each other, the branches tangled. This was a part of the fields that the dragons rarely flew towards, otherwise the density would’ve lessened. Still, the path was clear enough to use, but was gradually narrowing.

These morning runs always helped Dain collect himself, having time alone to ponder the day’s work and take in the icy air. Something about winter was always invigorating to him.

Something tapped him roughly on the shoulder. He wiped his head around to look, surprised by the sight of Xaden Riorson running behind him. Ice surged in his veins, unsure of what to do, quickly turned back around to look ahead, avoiding Xaden’s smirk.

Xaden then reached out and lightly pulled on Dain’s hoodie.

“Hey!” Dain finally stopped running, anxiously fixing his hood. “What do you want?”

Xaden stopped as well, catching his breath, but still giving the same smug look. “What? A Wingleader can’t go on a morning jog with his Squad Leader?” He asked, standing back to do some knee-lifts with his hands on his hips. He was wearing a simple runner’s outfit: a black hoodie, and black knee-long shorts.

Dain sniffed. “I would assume you’d like to not be anywhere near me.” He blew out a breath, taking in gulps of air after. He didn’t know how long he had gone out running, he would often lose track when his mind would wander to other things. “How about you go ahead of me?”

“No.” Xaden continued to smirk. “I want to try something new, Aetos.”

“Well, good luck with that.” Dain began walking back the other way. “I’m going back to the college.”

When Dain heard nothing back from his Wingleader, he couldn’t help but look back.

Xaden was gone.

Dain balked, staring at the spot where he last saw Xaden, eyebrows furrowed and mind racing. “… Riorson?” He uttered. If it weren’t for his heartbeats thumping in his ears, he was sure it would be nothing but silence. He took in another breath, filling his lungs with the cold air, before exhaling. Keep it together, man. Dain told himself, shaking his head.

He turned back to the direction he came from, only to freeze when he saw Xaden’s dark silhouette from afar. Dain caught his breath, his shoulders tensed at the sight of the faraway man.

Shadows. Dain took a step back, keeping an eye on Xaden. 1… 2… 3… Dain turned fast on his heel and sprinted up the dirt path. He exhilarated his speed with his lesser power, the weight of his legs became light but his feet continued to beat down into the dirt, pushing himself as quickly as he could from Xaden.

He could hear the whips of air trying to catch up with him from behind, the same brushes of a hand barely reaching his shoulders or moving arms. He cursed the thick shadows the trees cast down on him, feeling as if he could never get away from the Wingleader. But he knew there was at least a clearing up ahead, so the sunlight could save him for now. He could hear the ocean from where he was.

That was until he was grasped from behind, arms circled his chest and pulled him back hard. He fell backward on his back with a shout.

“Son of a bitch!” Dain yelped out. His wrists were pinned to the dirt path by shadowy binds, Xaden’s form materializing from a tree’s looming shade. Dain still breathed hard, trying to catch his breath, but he could see that Xaden wasn’t panting anymore. “Why the hell are you not winded?”

“Shadow teleporting doesn’t require my lungs, moron.” Xaden stepped over, peering down at his Squad Leader. “But enough about me. I like this view.”

Dain let out an exasperated sigh. “Fine, you had your fun. Now let me go, I don’t want to play any games with you.” He turned his head to look away from the dark-haired man.

Xaden tutted. “Since you’re being a sore loser, I think I deserve a prize.”

“At least let me catch my breath.” Dain tried to make do with his position, already laying flat on his back and taking deep breaths.

Xaden kept quiet as he knelt to observe Dain closely, looking at his grey Basgiath sweater. The bottom of the sweater had pulled up from the fall, exposing Dain’s skin, seeing the sculpted indents of his hips and stomach. His hand was already smoothing itself over Dain’s hot skin, trailing up his sweater to feel his chest.

“Hey!” Dain gasped. “Xaden quit it!”

But Xaden ignored him as his palm pressed against the space between Dain’s pecs, feeling the rapid thumps of his heartbeats, coupled with Dain’s panting. Xaden found himself becoming enticed by the sounds and Dain’s pulse, involuntarily biting his bottom lip.

“At least not on the path,” Dain murmured.

Xaden blinked, hearing how small Dain’s voice became. “Oh, don’t worry, we’ll be having our fun at the clearing. Where all the sunlight can show us having even more fun. But first…” Xaden looked around, seeing no cadets or superiors coming up either direction of the path. He climbed on Dain’s lap, straddling him, and continued to touch the Squad Leader.

“Geez, you’re really into this public play, huh?” Dain huffed out a laugh, hands relaxing. “I promised to play victim but this is a little much…” He could tell Xaden wasn’t paying attention, feeling the other man’s lips on his throat, nipping and kissing his salty skin. “Xaden…” He mistakenly uttered his name as a moan, still feeling Xaden’s hands exploring his chest and stomach. Dain swore at his body to react positively, but his mind was submitting as well. “You’re either hard of hearing or a very needy boyfriend.”

“Both.” Xaden kissed Dain’s chin, moving up to kiss his lips. “Sorry for throwing you on the ground like that. I got too excited about our game.”

The binds around Dain’s wrists undid, melting back into the tree’s shadow. The brunette’s hands found Xaden’s shoulders, smoothing his palms up Xaden’s back. “It’s okay. You’ve always been rough, but I like that. I like how restless you get.” He ran his fingers through the short, wavy black locks of Xaden’s hair. “I never understand where you get the energy, though.”

“Mm,” Xaden made a small smile, pressing his face against the crook of Dain’s neck and shoulder. “Say, you sure you don’t want to get frisky right here on the road?” He grinned.

Dain scoffed. “I would like to but I don’t want anybody running by and seeing me being plowed by my Wingleader. Plus, I don’t want my bare ass getting dirt on it.”

Xaden barked out a short laugh. “I got a great idea, then.” He pulled himself up to his feet, helping Dain up as well. Before he said anything else, he pulled Dain in close and picked him up bridal style, chuckling when he felt the Squad Leader wrap his arms around his shoulders fast to not fall. “Let’s go to that clearing.” He started walking up the dirt road with a flustered boyfriend in his arms.

“You don’t have to carry me!” Dain insisted, even though he was also laughing. “What’s your plan? You never carry me like this out of nowhere.”

“You’ll see.” Xaden only said. “And I did make you run like mad. I may as well repay the favor, huh?”

“Hmph, well, true…” Dain leaned his head on Xaden’s shoulder. He took in a breath, feeling his body calm down and his breathing evened out.

He looked ahead of them, seeing the morning sun slowly rising from the ocean horizon. The green winter was profound under the rays, glimmering from frost and the snow’s white color brightened. The air was chilled still, but in Xaden’s arms, he felt warm. The cliffside was grassy and had a few ivory boulders scattered around, not enough to block the view. The sun felt good, relaxing him more.

He then glanced up at Xaden, his heart pattered when he saw him. He still wondered how he was able to love such a man, and how someone like Xaden could love him so much. He always felt out of Xaden’s league, never close enough to reach his standards. And yet, Xaden chose him. Most intensely, Xaden promised to love him now and in another life. Dain didn’t think Xaden was all that religious, so to hear that was astounding.

Dain smiled to himself, moving his hand up to brush his fingers against Xaden’s cheek.

“Hm?” Xaden noticed, looking down at Dain. “What is it?”

“Nothing.” Dain cupped Xaden’s cheek. “I love you, that’s all.”

Xaden paused to that, studying Dain’s eyes and face.

“What?” Dain asked.

“Somehow you always manage to make me even more smitten with you, day after day.” He smiled at his boyfriend.

Dain moved up to kiss his partner, feeling Xaden stop walking. He hugged his arms around Xaden more as he felt him kiss back, both young men distracted in a connection of warm lips and wet tongues. Xaden never dropped Dain to the ground, making Dain wonder where he had so much strength to carry him for this long. Or was he just that light? He couldn’t have been.

“Come on,” Dain mumbled, breaking the kiss to suck on Xaden’s neck, “show me what you wanna do.”

“Fuck,” Xaden breathed out, “it’s getting harder to walk when you’re kissing me there.” He felt his skin tingle in delight, his shoulders rolling to shake out the pleasure of his neck being kissed and licked. “It was a bad idea to tell you my weak spots.”

“But you know mine, right?” Dain teased in his ear.

Xaden said nothing but continued to smile, now having a playful edge.

Arriving to the cliff, Xaden and Dain snuggled together behind a standing boulder, a place that was familiar to them on their previous morning jogs. Normally they would only spend time there to cuddle and talk out their thoughts, but now it would be different. Xaden sat down on the soft grass, back resting against the wide rock, with Dain in his lap. The two hugged and cuddled for a few more moments, enjoying each other’s warmth.

Then, Xaden’s sneaky hand ran down Dain’s back and cupped his ass.

“Oh!” Dain gasped, face blushing.

Xaden just laughed at his reaction. “One of your weak spots.” He winked. “Now, get comfortable.” He adjusted his legs to have Dain snug in his lap, not hiding his erection that was fully hard in his exercising shorts. He bit his bottom lip when he could also feel Dain’s against his. “Nn, you’re hard.” He peeked up at Dain, his hand already smoothing up his thigh, fingers sneaking under the shorts. “I don’t want you to bother with any grass or dirt, so…”

“This is my first time trying to ride you, huh?” Dain felt his heart thumping with excitement.

“I’ve always wanted to try this.”

“Yeah?” Dain asked in a teasing tone, leaning in to kiss his Wingleader.

“But you’ll need something to ride on.” Xaden licked Dain’s bottom lip. He then leaned back to give them space, lifting an eyebrow at him, still having a playful smile on his face.

Dain had been trying to play it cool, but to look down at their laps and see Xaden’s bulge made his heart pitter-patter, his hands moving down to shyly graze against the hem of his black shorts. No matter how many times they had sex, Xaden always made him feel so nervous, but in a comfortable way. It didn’t feel demeaning, but rather a good space for Dain to be detached from his dutiful side that was stringent and narrow, to a softer man that allowed another to handle him with care.

He noticed that about Xaden as well. The dark-haired Leader who would be stoic and broody every minute of his day, is now being boyish and playful, energized and teasing. He never smiled this much around others, nor had he ever wanted to touch someone so much and drink in their warmth, their presence. It almost made Dain feel dizzy from how much Xaden made him feel endeared.

Dain eased Xaden’s shorts down halfway, feeling Xaden lift his hips off the ground as he did, and his hand drew out his throbbing cock. Dain’s mouth went dry, his hand grasping the length and stroking it, earning a few soft groans from Xaden.

“Oh man,” Dain moaned as Xaden ran his hands under his grey sweater, his hands feeling good against his skin.

“I’m needy, remember?” Xaden grinned, fingertips massaging Dain’s nipples.

“And cheeky,” Dain swiped his thumb over the tip of Xaden’s hard cock before continuing to stroke him vigorously. He watched as Xaden flinched in pleasure at that, eyes half-lidded with a moan escaping him. Dain felt a thrill course through him.

Dain lifted himself off Xaden’s lap to pull down his shorts, looking around to see if anybody was running by the grassy cliff. Damn, this was way easier to hear them, being near such an echoey cliffside. Dain felt both fearful and excited.

“You worried?” Xaden asked, pulling Dain back down in his lap, his hands on his hips. “Don’t be. Just bite me when you wanna belt out a noise.” He fished in his shorts’ pocket and brought out a tiny clear bottle. “I’d prefer you suck my dick and get it wet, but I don’t wanna wait anymore.”

Xaden laid flat on his back on the grass, letting Dain lead. He already lathered his erection in the clear lotion, and Dain had already taken off his shorts fully. The crisp air hitting the lower parts of their bodies was still invigorating oddly.

“Ah,” Dain let out a small voice as he slowly seated himself down on Xaden’s lap, feeling Xaden’s length ease inside of him, the size giving him the familiar pressure he still thirsted over. The comforting circles Xaden’s thumbs gave to his hips encouraged him to keep going until he was at the hilt, their hips connected. “Damn.” Dain only said, one hand grasping on the boulder to steady himself.

“You okay?” Xaden asked in a quiet voice, face twisted in pleasure, but he restrained himself.

Dain nodded, giving a small smile. “Kiss me.” He whispered.

Xaden sat up, kissing Dain deeply. “Just move with me,” Xaden said against his lips, one hand holding Dain’s hip still as he began to roll his hips into his.

Dain nodded, closing his eyes to rest his forehead against Xaden’s, rocking his hips in time with his boyfriend’s. It felt better now, his body finding a rhythm and feeling Xaden’s cock move in and out of him deliciously, pressing against the bundle of nerves that made him make small, careful moans.

“Don’t be quiet. Let me hear you.” Xaden snapped his hips up, making Dain gasp out. “I love your voice, Dain.” He pumped one leg up to help give him more balance to keep thrusting upwards.

“Dammit, Xaden!” Dain belted out, his voice carried over the cliffside. But he didn’t stop, already delirious with pleasure, and didn’t want the ride to stop, rolling his hips and bouncing in Xaden’s lap to keep relentlessly hitting that good spot in him. “Oh god, this position makes you go so deep.” He panted out, lulling his head back.

Wrapping his arms around Dain’s waist and holding him, Xaden continued moving while his mouth found Dain’s neck, not holding back his teeth anymore, biting down on the column like a bat. His hips kept up the rapid pace, as well as Dain’s, though now he could feel Dain’s cock stiffen to the sting of his bite. “Stoke yourself. I’ll hold you.” Xaden panted against Dain’s broken skin.

Dain nodded, moving his hand between their flushed bodies to grasp his weeping cock while his other arm wrapped around Xaden’s shoulders. He pumped his length in time with his moving hips, his panting unable to keep quiet now, and his muscle desperately squeezing around Xaden’s dick. “Xaden…!” Dain cried out.

Yanking Dain’s sweater and shirt up, Xaden’s lips and sharp teeth were on Dain’s chest, nipping and kissing his pecs. “Ah, I’m so close…” Xaden murmured against Dain’s chest.

“I’m–” Dain wanted to say the same thing, but suddenly his body shook and flinched, his orgasm coming so fast that he didn’t realize he was closer than he thought. He came between their bodies hard, his muscles clenched more around Xaden’s cock as his body stuttered. “Fuck!” Dain let out a sharp exhale, planting himself squarely in Xaden’s lap, holding him tight.

“Ah, wait for me, I’m right behind you,” Xaden panted, picking up the pace, grasping Dain’s folded leg with one hand and gripping his other hand between Dain’s shoulder blades, hanging him on until he came hard inside of him. Xaden’s vision blurred and rolled up, never cumming that hard before. He fell backward on the grass with Dain still holding him and went down with him. His cock pulled out of Dain as they fell over, making Xaden shiver at the loss of contact.

They lay there, evenly coming down from their pleasure high while Dain relaxed his body and lay slumped on Xaden. He was still without shorts, his foggy mind trying to stir him out of cloud nine to find them before anybody came around.

“Are you okay?” Dain asked Xaden, finding his shorts near the boulder, and laying back down on the grass on his back while he slipped them on.

“Yeah.” Xaden made a lazy grin. “I just wanna cuddle here.” He moved over on his side to pull Dain in for a hug.

Dain kissed Xaden’s cheek. “Just fix your clothes before we accidentally take a nap or something. Or if somebody wanders by.”

“Too late.” A voice from the dirt road responded, making both young men almost jump sky-high from fright. “You two are so noisy! And nasty! You’re lucky I won’t tell!” It was Rhiannon, in her jogging outfit when she had stopped mid-running, hearing Dain and Xaden’s howling from beyond the boulder.

Dain’s face burned red, hiding his face on Xaden’s chest. “Oh, Gods above!” He grumbled.

Xaden was ready to return to his former self – the deep, dark, and brooding leader that could scare anybody with just a look – but he remained lying down with Dain, fixing his clothes before embracing Dain again. They both could hear the cadet jogging away eventually.

“Damn, talk about a mood killer.” Xaden scoffed, combing his fingers through Dain’s hair.

Dain just groaned, cuddling close to his side. “You made me get loud.” He pouted.

“… True,” Xaden smirked. “Tell you what, we can head back to the college and take a shower together. Then you can be as loud as you want in my room.”

“I’ll take you up on that offer.” Dain grinned. “But only if you carry me back.”

“That won’t be a problem.”
