Chapter Text
“I got here as fast as I could.”
A hint of a smile tugs at L’s lips. There was a glint in those inky black eyes of his. Subtle, but there.
“Thank you for coming on such a short notice, Light.”
With the swivel of a chair, he returned back to his usual stony-faced look. His eyes locked on to Light’s, the monitor from behind sharply illuminating the outline of his form.
“Regarding the Kira investigation, I have something important I’d like to share…”
L took a bite out of his cake, savouring that familiar sweet flavour, the white frosting slowly melting away on his tongue.
“…Something I believe may stop Kira for good.“ L mumbled, mouth still full.
Light raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued.
Stop Kira for good? As if. With the notebook back in my possession and with my memories returned, it’s only a matter of time before I get rid of you. It’s too late to stop me now, L.
Light began to approach, assured that whatever L had to say was nothing to worry about.
He was oblivious of what was soon to come.
“So, what was it you wanted to show-”
With the click of a mouse, Light’s talking stopped, his attention redirected in an instant to a strange, humming sound filling the room. He looks down at the monitor, his eyes met with a black and white spiral, steadily swirling around the screen. Round, and round, and round. Something about it made him feel…uneasy…though he couldn’t quite place his finger on why.
The brunette stood there, still transfixed on the screen, when all of a sudden, a voice emerges through the hum. Startled, Light lets out a yelp, stumbling back in the chair behind him, eyes never leaving the screen.
“You are calm,” the voice says.
The voice was as gentle as a feather, brushing against his skin. A soft tickle that was barely there, yet impossible to ignore.
Light’s eyes remained widened, his head feeling like it’s burning. He knows that something isn’t quite right, and yet…he can’t bring himself to look away…can’t bring himself to ignore the voice…He feels his usually sharp mind clouded by a thick haze.
“You are calm,” the voice repeats.
Slowly, the tensed up muscles in Light’s body begin to relax, the aching in his head subsiding. His breathing transitions to becoming more slow and steady as he watches the spiral spin.
“I…am calm…” he says.
L brings a thumb to his lips, watching intently at the steady swirling animation reflected in Light’s eyes as he continues to remain fixated on the screen.
“Your body feels heavy,” the voice says.
Light slowly sinks into the chair beneath him.
“Yes…so……heavy……”
His speech had became slightly slurred, eyes glazed over, almost as if he was drugged.
“Your mind feels numb…so numb…but that’s ok. Thinking is hard and stressful, it’s much easier just to obey without any thought.”
A fragment of his fatigued mind, drunk on the feeling of mindless obedience fought to resist, but whatever fight he had left in him eventually slipped away, his jaw growing slack as the words seeped into his brain.
“Just…obey…” he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper “…so much easier…”
Any independent thoughts that somehow remained in his mind were now completely wiped away. But that was ok. The voice told him he doesn’t need to think for himself. It can do that for him.
“You feel good,” the voice continues.
A small smile slowly spread across his cheeks, a soft hum of agreement escaping his lips.
“Yes…I feel good…I like feeling good…feeling good is nice...so…nice…”
The man spoke in a slur, his words barely intelligible as he fell deeper and deeper into the trance.
“You feel very tired,” the voice drawls. “You can hardly keep your eyes open.”
Light let out a gentle yawn, his eyelids drooping.
“So…tired…” he murmured.
“You will now fall into a deep sleep. A sleep that you can only be awoken from by L saying your name. When awoken, you will do everything he says without second-thought.”
“Do you agree?”
Light nodded his head lazily, and in the blink of an eye, he fell into a deep sleep. His head slowly lolled to the side, shoulders slumping back as he felt himself melting into the soft cushioning of the chair beneath. His lips parted just a little, his breathing soft and gentle. In a state like this, he looked almost angelic. He didn’t have that usual sharp look in his eyes, no, just peaceful mindlessness as they slowly…dropped…shut.
L chews on his nail ravenously, cheeks reddening at the sight of his sleeping face under the sedation of hypnosis. Seeing Light this way…so calm…so vulnerable…
It was dangerously addicting.
