Chapter Text
Two days later.
Once a week, usually on a Sunday, Cole, Zane, and Jay would go out on a date. One person each week would plan a date and take their partners on it. This week it was Zane’s turn.

It wasn’t long before his partners were at the front door. “Welcome, Father has gone out with Echo today so we are home alone.” Zane grinned, kissing Cole and Jays’ cheeks as they came through the door. He secretly enjoyed making them blush, he found it funny (and very cute).
Echo was Zane’s little brother. Both were autistic but Echo was low-functioning so Dr. Julienne usually took him out of the house when Zane had people over. That way Echo wouldn’t have a sensory overload due to the noise the three often made.
Once in the kitchen, they moved to their usual spots. Zane stood behind the counter with Cole leaning against the cabinets and Jay on a barstool with a soft drink in hand. “So, who we baking the cake for Snowflake?” Cole asked as they settled in.
Zane gave a sly grin. “Kai Smith of course.”
Cole’s eyebrows disappeared into his hair, “What!?” Jay choked on his drink.
“You want us to bake a cake for Kai- the red ninja Kai? Stoic guy at school Kai? The popular Kai?” The latter asked disbelievingly. “Why!? I mean I know we like him but isn’t it a bit weird to make him a cake when we hardly know him?”
Zane chuckled at his boyfriends’ reactions and then pursed his lips, pulling a more serious face. “Kai and I are now partners in my cooking class, and on Friday he revealed he and his friends aren’t speaking to each other anymore. I thought this would be a good incentive for him to sit with us at lunch tomorrow.”
Cole’s mouth fell open. “You want him to sit with us? I thought you’d be the last person to want that.” Zane smiled.
“Of course not, I want you two to be happy… and I’m starting to realise why you like his eyes so much.” He said staring at the floor shyly. Jay and Cole exchanged grins.
“So you’re saying you are okay if we made a move?” Jay asked excitedly.
“Completely sure?” Cole confirmed. Zane nodded smiling, and with that they got to work. Zane started making the batter, whisking the eggs whilst chatting about a native bird he hand fed once. The other two listened attentively whilst attending to their own tasks. Cole picked out toppings from the fridge and pantry, placing them on the counter into groups so the three could decide their favourite combination later. Jay got to work on the cream and icing, opting for a red velvet flavour.
Cole finished his task long before the others, so he started on the dishes. It was amazing how much crockery they went through whilst baking. “JAY! HOW MANY SPOONS DO YOU NEED FOR ICING!?” Cole exclaimed, looking at the cluster of cutlery in the sink. The red tipped spoons gave him away.
“I had to try it!” Jay laughed. Grabbing another spoon from the drawer and making ‘here comes the airplane’ motions towards Cole. His boyfriend rolled his eyes. “That’s the last spoon you’ll use, and then cleaning is your problem” he threatened, licking the spoon in Jay’s hands anyways. He grunted in satisfaction- the icing was good. “And no more tasting the icing, even if it’s the most delicious thing next to Zane’s hot chocolates- we won’t have any left for the cake!”
Jay cackled as Zane turned around dramatically. “You like his icing more than my cake and mint ice-cream!?” He asked, pretending to be offended.
“No! I didn’t say that! Who said that!?” Cole shrieked. Although his shrieking might have had more to do with the glob of cream that found its way towards his forehead, courtesy of Jay. He’d used the last spoon from the drawer.
“HAH!” Cole pointed at it triumphantly. “YOU’RE CLEANING!” He cried gleefully, him and Zane cracking up at Jay’s crestfallen face.
The rest of the afternoon passed in a similar fashion.
