Of course, it’s never enough just to watch her, even if it is his words that send her over the edge, even if she’s started to talk a little sweeter. It’s the faintest taste of everything he wants and craves but can’t have and all it does is make him want more. If she would just let him out of this jar…
But he doesn’t know how good he has it, not until they return to Portland Row and Lockwood starts coming up the stairs, crawling into her too-small bed. Not until he watches her come apart under Lockwood’s hands.
