Chapter 1: Territorial Ambush
Chapter Text
Caitlyn would say she was a jealous individual. She could easily admit it now as she grew older.
She understood she had a proclivity to it as an only child seeking to find her place in the world. When her mother came home singing praises of the brilliant Mel Medarda, Caitlyn had done all the research that was on the young Noxian that bordered on "stalking" and a "complete invasion of privacy" or so her mother told her.
The bottom line had been, regardless, the new councilor was not a perfect human being the way her mother told it. That was how Caitlyn had defended herself. She was still sent to her room as punishment while Mel looked on in startled amusement.
She had no qualms with Mel as her early years passed but she nearly stomped her foot again when she learned of Jayce's attraction and sudden mission to follow Councilor Medarda around everywhere now like a new puppy. Viktor was also not spared from Caitlyn's cold demeanor as Jayce, her only friend, yipped and talked about his partner.
The one sided animosity, however, ended just as quickly when Viktor confronted her and assured her that she was Jayce's one and only best friend. It also helped that he had answered all of her questions about the Undercity growing up.
Even Mel, once they bonded over their shared complicated feelings about their mothers, had progressed from "brother-figure stealer" status to "by the gods just please put a ring on him" level.
But with Violet, well…
"You have got to stop getting us banned from every bar around here," Vi groaned, half jokingly.
The two women were walking along the bridge, passing by shops and booths closing up or reviewing inventory. Some have changed wares more appropriate for this cool Thursday night.
Caitlyn had her arm wrapped around her girlfriend, wearing her jacket and a pout. "She said 'May I take you out?' and was practically undressing you right in front of me!"
"First of all, she was a waitress and she said 'Hi, may I take your order?' and second, she wasn't actually doing that."
"She was. With her eyes!"
"Cupcake, her wife was literally there."
Caitlyn scoffed. "Another potential intruder who plans to proposition you then. I had no choice but to stake my claim -
Vi raised a brow.
"I mean, to defend your modesty!"
A snort escaped her girlfriend. "Nice save," Vi deadpanned. Then she shook her head, standing on her tiptoes to kiss Caitlyn's head. "But still doesn't excuse your territorialism."
Caitlyn hummed. "Then why am I being rewarded, hmm?"
"It's not because I'm withholding sex tonight."
The world stopped. The sky turned a crimson red. And the moon crashed into orbit.
Or it felt like it as Caitlyn looked at Vi, mouth agape. "What?"
Vi grinned, walking forward and interlocking her arms behind her head. Teasing Caitlyn a tantalizing view of her muscles. "You heard me."
"Why?"
"Because," Vi poked her nose, "it's funny. But also because I am a bit mad."
Caitlyn huffed but wilted a little at the mote of sincerity. "You are?"
"Yeah. She was a friend, Cait. Come on." Vi toyed with dark-indigo blue strands. "But just tonight. I don't want to punish myself too. So I'm going out to buy Jericho's to make up for your stunt." She left a kiss. "I still love you." The brawler turned, waving. "I'll see you at home."
Caitlyn grumbled her response into her lips. "I love you too." Then Vi was gone.
So here Caitlyn was, close after midnight, and peppering the rose petals on their bed. Caitlyn was no stranger to using seduction to get what she wanted. Plus, technically it was no longer 'tonight' which meant Vi's punishment was now forfeit.
Caitlyn grinned, pleased with finding the loophole. Now to spring the trap.
When she heard the door open, Caitlyn pounced and posed on their bed. With a rose stem in her mouth, assorted toys, and Vi's favorite lingerie, the night should have turned out in Caitlyn's favor.
Unfortunately her girlfriend came home carrying a wet lump of a rag and wearing the brightest smile in all of Runeterra. Regardless of the sun that had entered her room, something else wandered into her territory. Something unwanted.
Caitlyn's eye twitched, letting the rose drop from her lips to the bed. "What is that bloody thing?"
"It's a cat, Cait!"
Vi's eyes sparkled like newfound gemstones. Precious. Rare. Totally valuable to Caitlyn, personally, as she did strive to ensure Violet smiled approximately around fifty to a hundred times a day.
But her devotion to ensure Vi's happiness was now being put to the test again. It wasn't helping matters when the little pussyblocker even had the audacity to purr so loudly after being showered by her girlfriend's attention.
"I'm gonna go on another run to get her some supplies. Be right back!" Vi left quickly as she came.
"B-But wait -
The door slammed shut.
Caitlyn's outstretched hand fell to her side. Then she shot the trespasser a glare. The unkempt thing stared at Caitlyn.
Then it narrowed its eyes, mimicking the sheriff's glare.
Chapter 2: D(ef)ying Boundaries
Chapter Text
Caitlyn stood inside the kitchen with her hands on her hips. Atop the counter, the cat lazily wagged her tail. All around them were numerous broken plates and glasses.
"I see you have a penchant for needless destruction," Caitlyn seethed.
Her girlfriend was out. Caitlyn had endured waking up and nearly getting suffocated by this little unkempt hairball for the past week. When she finally found the chance to interact with this intruder without her love's ever watchful eye, Caitlyn settled with diplomacy first.
Alas, the olive branch was swatted away and resulted in the same fate of her prized collection of Shuriman imported dining wares.
And that was why Caitlyn had her rifle ready. It was still folded but that could change quite easily should this lazy lout try anything else.
Caitlyn took another deep breath to calm her temper. "I understand the rules of the streets are different but you are staying with us for the unseeable future. Hopefully that will only be this week at best."
The cat yawned before turning away from Caitlyn, flashing an unflattering view of her butt. That asshole.
Though plans to convince Vi of the timeline was still an ongoing process, Caitlyn was confident she could expedite matters after utilizing her effective weapons. Kirammountains always had a eighty-five percent success rate.
But dIPloMAcY Is An IMPorTaNt ARt caITlyN. As her dear mother always told.
Caitlyn pushed the ten cans of cat food towards the feline again. "I am willing to negotiate and request that you only stay for another day. You may keep these so you can leave us alone."
She ignored Jinx walking past the broken shards and idly taking a milk carton from the refrigerator. Her sister in law sipped obnoxiously before she stood beside Caitlyn.
"For a second there, I thought you were talking about me."
"I already gave you the same speech yesterday."
"Ah right," Jinx burped before she stuck a finger inside her ear. "Wasn't listening." She leaned against the taller girl's shoulder. "But you gotta listen to me now when I say you're not going to get rid of that thing."
"What?"
"You know why I started crashing into Vi and your's place? Because it's definitely not to get scarred by you two going at it," Jinx shuddered, "No. It's because I got kicked out too."
"Kicked out? I thought you said you were allergic to the new dogs Ekko and Isha brought ho - oh."
Jinx nodded. "Yep. Mostly for the dogs' sake. Darn animal cruelty laws or whatever, but it's really tempting to shoot em." She mimicked a gun with her fingers, pointing at the cat. "Like one day, you're gonna lose control if those little mutts keep hogging my Isha cuddles, my weighted blankets or entering rooms during private time."
Caitlyn grimaced and slapped the hand. "I'm perfectly more disciplined than you."
"Pfft. Sure." Jinx then gestured to her outfit. She was wearing Ekko's large coat. "But when the little bugger takes away your favorite clothing, you'll see what I mean." Her eyes flashed with a grin. "We're not so different, you and I."
Jinx then brought up the carton again, sipping louder. Then she disappeared with a laugh.
Caitlyn watched her retreat to the living room before shaking her head. Her hand started to shake however as doubt seeped in. Carefully, she stepped away from the shards to grab the broom. But also to check a secret place.
One of Vi's stolen jackets was supposed to be in here. Her favorite. The red one. The one that smelled heavily like her girlfriend.
Yet nothing.
Caitlyn gaped as she tossed every box and item out.
"Mew."
Slowly, Caitlyn turned. And in her veins felt like lava entered them, coursing through her entire being as the four-legged jacket stealer loafed on top of the red clothing. Then it yawned before curling rudely in front of her. Like it didn't just insult her and all the good that she stood for.
Her hands twitched, painfully aware of the rifle kept behind her. Instead, Caitlyn balled them into fists. Before uncurling one middle finger.
The cat yawned once before turning away again, flicking her tail.
