Chapter 1: A Bright Light
Chapter Text
A young man stood by the balcony, gazing upon the night sky. His blue eyes were filled with dreams and ambitions to become a great hero. However, he felt like his friends underestimated him. His powers were not quite developed compared to others. He lets out a sigh at the cold breeze, recalling the events that happened earlier.
Phainon walked through Okhema, following Aglaea who was looking for blind spots in the city. He kept asking her plenty of questions to eat with him, visit the bath, just anything to pass the time. In a strict tone, she told him to leave and do anything on his own. Feeling disappointed, he lowers his head and leaves.
As a knightlike figure, he was tasked to guard the city. But, the holy city hasn't experienced any form of attack in a long time, giving him free time. He usually works on his body or trains his fighting skills, which he got bored of. Even his closest friend, Tribbie, became busy recently. She helps a lot of people every day that she couldn't spend time with him.
For the other Chrysos Heirs.. he isn't too fond of interrupting them. Asking Mydei to do anything, will only be met by his anger while Castorice, avoids getting too close to people for her own reasons.
So, he muttered to himself, hoping to feel better.
He raises his arm, reaching for the stars. "If only I had someone who is always there to look for me. Then, I will shower them back with nothing but love and admiration."
Then, he leans back against the balustrade, staring into his quiet room. He closes his eyes for a moment as if wishing it to come true. Out of the blue, he felt a bright light behind him. His hand gripped onto the balustrade, staring at a light falling from the sky. He immediately left and tracked it down.
His legs bolted as quick as lightning, going through Kephale Plaza. A bunch of guards greeted him and questioned where he was going. Phainon only gave them vague answers and said that he was busy on official business. They let him go and went on with their duties. He continued on his way and stopped when he saw the light had landed somewhere around Janusopolis. His throat gulped knowing the implications of it, but he had to be quick to seek it out.
Soon, he arrived at the rocky terrains of the area. His body became sweaty from all the running. The chill brushes against his skin. He walked into the area, cautiously looking around for any threats. Despite coming here many times, he still felt worried about the spooky atmosphere.
He hid behind rocks, to avoid the gaze of Titankins. Even if he could destroy them, it would only alert more of them. Soon, he arrived in front of an entrance. Pieces of rubble were scattered everywhere. Beneath all that, he saw somebody laying on the ground. They were barely moving. Phainon thought it was a corpse, but in the goodness of his heart, he decided to check it out. He waved his hand by their nose and found that they were still breathing. His arms moved the pieces to the side, revealing a young male, dressed in foreign clothing. Their fluffy grey hair fascinated him.
He slowly pulls their arm, carrying them in his arms. Suddenly, he hears the sound of stones cracking near him. It was the titankins. There were a couple of them coming from all sides. He decides to take him and run for it. He needed to keep him safe.
The silver-haired man speedily threaded the ruins. His past experiences helped him to remember the path. Though, the titankins still chased him down. When he got far enough, he rested the young man by a stone pillar and confronted the monsters. He bashed them with a bat swiftly.
One got past him and aimed to hit the man. Fearing that he was too late, the monster's movement was stopped by an unknown force. Phainon immediately finished the job. He became more intrigued by this mysterious figure.
The area around them turned silent once again. He carried him and headed back to Okhema. To avoid any suspicion from prying eyes, he covered them with his coat. His strength let out when he landed in his bed. It was the first time he had anybody else in his bed, let alone an unconscious stranger. "Where did he come from?" He wondered.
This person doesn't hail from Amphoreus that's for sure. His face and clothes are uncommon around here. For what reason does he fall from the sky? Is it a good omen or a terrible sign?
Whatever it is, Phainon needed to hide him from other people. No one must know the existence of skies beyond. Right now, he'll wait until they are awake to ask questions.
After a quick shower, he strips off his sweaty attire and changes into a chiton. To not scare his guest off, he decides to lay back in a comfy armchair. He can sense any movement easily even when he's half-asleep. As he dozes off to sleep, he glances at their lean figure on the bed one last time.
The morning light penetrates through the ornamental windows, a charming brightness filling the entire room. He raises his head, analyzing his surroundings. When he notices it, they are already gone. The door burst open loudly and he sprinted out to seek the grey-haired man. One wrong move will cause chaos. He went around the halls which led him outside to the garden. In the middle, stood alone a hooded figure holding a golden butterfly.
His broad frame gripped their hand tightly. The hood drops, revealing a pair of golden eyes that pierce through the soul. On their face were plastered with confusion and a hint of homesickness. They didn't try to fight back and stayed silent. He comforts them to relax.
"Sorry, but I can't let you run around alone. Are you alright?" He said.
He shook his head, eyes fully focused on him in response. Phainon's gaze softens, wrapping his arm behind their back.
"I know you must be feeling confused, as I do. Why don't we take it slow and we can talk about it with each other?" He suggested.
He nodded, with a faint smile on his face. They went back to Phainon's chamber, eating some fruits to energize for the day. He started to ask the young man an array of questions.
"First of all, may I know your name?"
"Cae- I mean.." He stuttered.
"I'm sorry, I don't think I heard it clearly."
"No, you didn't. For now, please call me Trailblazer."
Phainon thought that it must be for privacy reasons, but he respected his decision. "I see. We all have secrets, so you don't need to tell me. I'll make you feel comfortable to tell me your real name."
"Thanks, I appreciate that." He replied.
"Next, where did you come from?"
"I.. am a member of the Astral Express. We travel from world to world, resolving the Stellaron crisis and making friends with the people." He explained.
His blue eyes widen, surprised to hear of the world beyond them. He is also fascinated by every word that comes out of his mouth.
"You sound like a pretty big deal! Though, what's a Stellaron?" He asked.
Trailblazer hesitated to think of a way to explain it to him. "Uhh.."
He scratched his head while Phainon stared at him like a curious child, listening to a story. Their eyes met a few times, but his gaze never faltered once. Trailblazer became nervous and waved his hand to his face. He recoiled, his sight interrupted.
"Haha, sorry. I love listening to tales, especially from someone like you."
He let out a soft sigh then continued, "Sorry, I can't explain what a Stellaron is either. The only thing you must understand is that it destroys worlds."
"That's terrible! You must be a true hero to protect all those people.
"I wouldn't say that, we just happened to arrive on time."
"Still. They are still lucky to have you."
Abruptly, Trailblazer's body collapses. Phainon quickly caught him, his head resting on his chest. Their breathing was muffled. Sweat dripped down his face. Not knowing what to do, the large man pats their head and rubs their back. The warmth radiating off him intensifies.
"Woah, what's wrong? Are you sick?" He questioned, worried.
"I don't know... but something feels wrong. My head and body are reacting weirdly."
Trailblazer peeked up, staring at him with desperate eyes. His arms wrapped around his muscular figure. The sounds of their breathing and their heart thumps can be heard. Phainon lays him down slowly on the bed, the other not letting go. Their bodies were practically rubbing against each other. With his right hand, they feel their forehead running down to their neck, hot like fire.
"Trailblazer, you're having a fever, at an unusual level. I need to get you help right away."
"Don't leave me alone here, please." He begged.

Trailblazer pulls on Phainon's clothes firmly. He couldn't express the sharp pain he felt throughout his body. Concerned, he tries to help them relax by taking long breaths, etc. Nothing worked. With his large hands, he pinned down their wrists to the bed. Their eyes closed, shaking. Tears fell from their eyes, soaking the sheets.
"I'll bring you to Lady Aglaea. She'll know what to do with you." He said.
"Okay.." He whimpered.
He carries him out of there, heading to Marmoreal Palace, the giant baths blessed by Phagousa, the Ocean Titan. A place where the people, mostly philosophers and scholars came to debate and chat. With no time to lose, he walks toward the Hero's bath, specialized for the Chrysos Heirs. A fair lady in a white dress, laced with gold stood by a waterfall that flows golden water. She descended the stairs as she felt a familiar presence.
"Phainon? What's the meaning of this?" She asked.
In a worried tone, he explained what happened earlier. She was surprised to hear about the unexpected event. "No wonder my golden threads were quivering last night."
Calmly, she told him to place them in the water. Phainon removed their jacket, leaving only their undergarments. He gently places their body in the lukewarm waters. After, she pours some bathing oil.
"Let go of your worries for the waters shall cleanse you." She continued.
Trailblazer kept on wailing before putting his palm on his mouth. "Wait, I think I'm going to puke."
In a swift motion, she hands out a small basin under his face. It is as if she knew this was going to happen. A daily occurrence perhaps.
"Phainon, would you massage him while I fetch him some water to drink?"
"Yes, Lady Aglaea." He replied.
She descended off the platform, walking from room to room. Meanwhile, he took off pieces of his gear and urged them to lean forward. "Will you relax yourself now? I can't help if you won't stop shaking."
"You don't.. understand how I am feeling. My entire body feels like needles were poked at every inch of it." He murmured.
"Let's take it slow, then. Tell me when you feel discomfort."
He begins to press on their back. They trembled slightly with every squeeze of the fingertips. His palms were warm, slowly sliding down to one's sensitive spots. Phainon took a second to realize how big his hands were compared to the man's waist. He could wrap his fingers around them wholly. This made him blush a little.
To add to that, he could hear soft moans coming from the person. He tries his best to ignore it.
Soon, Aglaea returned without a warning. He felt a little frightened, fearing as if she could hear his thoughts. He peered back at her, the tapping of her heels getting closer. She puts down a tray of fruits and drinks next to them. Her blonde locks rested next to Phainon's shoulders, and her fingers subtly touched his forearm.
"I'll take over from here. You did well." She interrupted.
He let go and sat down next to Trailblazer. She continues to massage him, this time he's reacting even more wildly. "You need to find all the pressure points to feel better."
On the other hand, he feeds them some grapes and sliced apples. He nibbled at them one at a time. A couple of minutes later, they were finally done. Trailblazer rested his head back on Aglaea's lap while Phainon submerged himself in the water. She calls on him to send back the tray and basin back. He heeded her orders and left.
When he arrived at the other bath chambers, he couldn't help but recall that weird sensation when they were together alone. He touched his chest, feeling his heart beating fast. A tall shadow peeks over his back, and he looks back. It was a guard greeting him.
"Good day, Lord Phainon." He said, excitedly.
"Hello there. You look well today." Phainon replied.
The guard brushes his helmet, almost shy. "I've never felt better, especially with you gracing us with your presence. Did you come here to cool down too?"
"Oh, no. Lady Aglaea and I had some business to discuss. When I knew it, I disrobed myself and dipped in the bath."
The guard laughed at his statement. They discussed a little bit of their personal matters and made jokes with one another before Phainon mentioned something new.
"Say, why is my heart pulsing so quickly when I'm thinking of somebody?"
"Ah, that. I would say that you are developing feelings for that person."
He mumbled. "Feelings? Are you implying that I like them?"
The guard shrugged. "Perhaps. Your body knows first before your mind."
"Yes, you might be right. Thank you for the conversation, but I must return to Lady Aglaea now."
As he returned, he noticed that Aglaea and Trailblazer had their fingers knotted with a golden thread. Phainon realized that she must have done the trust ritual and called her out on it.
"Do you find our ally untrustworthy, Lady Aglaea?" He asked.
She closed her eyes for a moment and gazed at him. "Any outsiders pose risks for us all. I'm merely taking precautions for our benefit." She stated, stern in her words.
"Are you done now? Is he alright?"
"He's free to leave, but he's weakened. My conclusion is that Amphoreus is trying to reject his existence." She coldly expressed.
"Reject? What do you mean?"
"I don't understand it either. However, his appearance on our land has inevitably cursed him."
Phainon couldn't comprehend the logic. He rubs his head trying to think of a good reason. He even recalls the strange event that happened the first time he met them. Time seemed to stop for a moment when they were in trouble. But he keeps that information to himself.
Aglaea got closer to him and raised her pinky finger.
"Promise me that you'll take care of him. Keep him safe and never let the citizens know of his true identity."
He intertwines their finger, raising it up to eye level.
"I will. He shall never leave my side for as long as I'm here."

Chapter 3: The Deliverer's Wish
Notes:
Greek mythology is so huge that I'm actually having a stroke revising it for my novel. Especially now that I have to put them in the context of HSR lore.
Chapter Text
Aglaea urged them to stay at home until Trailblazer could properly stand on his own two feet. Phainon nodded his head, seemingly out of respect for her. He picked up his trusted ally and rested their body against himself. Trailblazer clung onto him hard, feeling a little disoriented.
"Thank you, Lady Aglaea. I'll be sure to take good care of myself." He said as he bowed.
She would only stare in silence before replying, "You're welcome, it is my duty after all. Don't forget to take some medicine."
She turned her back. They stepped away cautiously, avoiding any risky movement. Phainon smiled at him, to lighten up the mood. Despite how it seems, he is affected more than his partner. For the first time, a hint of embarrassment crossed his heart.
When they got on the platform, Aglaea walked up to them. She pulls out a rectangular-shaped device, a phone basically, pointing her finger at it.
"Phainon, remember to use your teleslate. If there's any emergency, send me a message."
"Oh, right! How could I forget about the teleslate?" He laughed.
She clears her throat. "Speaking of which, does your friend have one? I could gift him a spare."
He waved his hand repeatedly. "I actually carry his teleslate with me. Here it is!"
Trailblazer was handed his phone from their pocket. It lit up and has a reasonable battery life. He wondered why it was a bit scratched, but held it off. A smile formed on his face when he gripped it. Phainon sees it and feels glad for him.
"Let's exchange information, this way you'll at least have a guide."
She took his phone, saving her number in it. He grabbed it back when Aglaea looked satisfied. His chat with Aglaea has already written a few guides and rules. Despite her strict tone, he feels she's only looking out for everyone in her own way.
Then, they went home. Phainon made Trailblazer lay down in his bed, but he insisted he could rest on his armchair. He forced him to listen and he eventually complied. The room felt lively with him around, making conversations and having small banters.
"Your name is Phainon, right?" He asked.
"That's right, I didn't introduce myself to you. Why am I so forgetful these days..?"
"Am I saying your name correctly? Like.. Phainon. Phainon?" He uttered.
"Yeah, that's how you pronounce it."
"Since you've trusted me with your name, I think it is fair that I tell you mine."
His eyes sparkled, filled with interest. Trailblazer told him to come closer to his face. They wrapped their arm around his neck and whispered in his ear.
"Caelus. That's my name."
With that, they fell back onto the bed, staring at their friend. Next to him, his friend purposefully laid down next to him. Their clothes piled on each other, as they stayed together. The sounds of their breathing intensify.
"Caelus. What a marvelous name!" He replied, full of passion.
The distance between them is quite close, but none seemed to care or realize it. The sun hung high in the sky at this moment, and both were already exhausted. They stared at each other, admiring their speech, style, and appearance. Their bond was no longer shaking, instead, it was slowly blooming.
"Can I call you Cae from now on? I think it's cute." He continued.
His heart buzzed slightly. "Cute? That's a little odd, no?"
"W-Well, I just think it suits you. If not that, then handsome?" He stuttered.
He giggled at him. "Alright. So Cae it is."
Phainon's body trembled with excitement, almost like a puppy wagging its tail when they're happy. They could finally understand each other better now.
He suddenly got up and realized something. They haven't had a full meal for the day. Caelus's stomach growled when he mentioned that to him and they laughed. Phainon offered to grab some food for both of them while he rested.
The door shuts, leaving him alone in a stranger's humble room. He uses his phone to text the Astral Express family. When he tried to send it, the message couldn't go through. His face looked disappointed and a little mad. That was his only way out of here. He cuddled a pillow tightly, in hopes they would come to save him.
Later, Phainon returned with packaged food in his hands. He saw the grey-haired man, dozing away. His arms and legs wrapped around a bolster pillow, their head facing to the side. The clothes on his body were loose, revealing part of his skin, smooth and supple. He approached them, caressing their head.
He talked to himself. "Are you a shooting star sent down for me? So bright and lively." He stores the food in a cabinet. The tall man stood outside on the balcony, staring at the wonderful people below. Everyone has places to be and things to do. Meanwhile, his life goal was to become the Deliverer, which he finds impossible now. He hasn't returned a coreflame, and the other heirs are far more impressive in the way they carry themselves.
The wind blew on his face as he stared at the humongous figure of Kephale. He knew that it was his destiny.
"I shall destroy Nikador, as my first step. No longer shall they suffer from the black tide."
His teleslate beeped, receiving a message. Aglaea asked him to meet up tonight with the other Chrysos Heirs. They wished to discuss the fate of the nameless. He agrees with their suggestion.
He looked back at Caelus sleeping on his bed. "Perhaps you are the key to stopping the endless cycle of bloodshed?"
Phainon wakes him up, pleading for them to eat. He rubbed his eyes still in a daze.
"Am I dreaming?" He asked.
"Definitely not. This food will awaken your senses that's for sure!" He gleefully replied.
They ate together, chowing down on pieces of bread, and stew. For some reason, Caelus noticed that he was less talkative than usual. He questioned it only to move on to a different topic. It definitely feels strange that he wasn't as bright as earlier. He refrained from asking further and kept it when the time was suitable.
After that, Phainon told them that he would be meeting with the other Chrysos Heirs tonight. Their eyes widened, as they voiced a soft "hmm".
"Curious? We'll be discussing about you tonight." He added.
"What's it got to do with me? I haven't done anything at all."
"You never did any wrong, but you just happened to be here. We've never had an incident like this before."
"To be honest, I don't know how I got here. A moment ago, I was on the Astral Express to depart for Amphoreus and now I'm stuck here with you."

Chapter Text
Phainon gazed at the young man sitting in front of him. Their golden eyes were filled with an underlying honesty and their lips, pouted.
"I believe you. Haven't considered that you have family that might miss you." He said.
"Why was I brought into this world? My existence here is actively being denied, but you accepted me."
He extends his hand reaching for their cheeks. Caelus softly grabs his wrist, stopping it in midair. His head lowered as if regretting something.
He murmured, "I'm so sorry, it is probably my fault."
Confused, he asked for further clarifications from the blue-eyed fellow. Their silver hair covered their eyes.
"I made a silent wish upon the sky, hoping for someone to free me from my loneliness. At that exact moment, a trail of light fell on Amphoreus. That's when I discovered you, laying unconsciously in the abyss. I take full responsibility for my selfish action."
His arms were fully static, but his chest pounded uncontrollably. A tinge of regret stirred in his mind. Their friend only stared in disbelief, feeling that his story was just a coincidence. This is the first he's seen Phainon opening up, proving his humanity. He himself longed for a meaningful connection, with which he could relate personally.
"Do you really believe what you're telling me? Is that the only explanation you've got?"
"The Titans have knowledge that surpasses humans and demigods alike, anything in Amphoreus could only happen with their power."
"Am I your wish come true? If fate brought us together, surely there's a reason."
"You're wonderful. Nobody has ever moved me like you've done."
He clenches his own hand and puts it on his chest. "I made an oath to keep you safe. My body shall go far beyond for your sake."
"Even the skies itself?" Caelus remarked.
He confidently stood. "As far as the skies reach."
Later that night, they had a meeting at the Vortex of Genesis. Among them were Aglaea, Tribbie and Castorice. Phainon was surrounded by his friends, him being the topic of discussion. He noticed that some members were nowhere to be found.
"There's some of us missing. Are Mydei and Cipher not coming?" He wondered.
"We welcomed them to come but it seems they are busy." Tribbie replied.
"Our meeting must still go on. I can relay the information to them later." Aglaea added.
Castorice inches closer behind Aglaea, a bit timid with her hands folded behind. Her presence is quiet but still garnered the attention of Phainon whenever she did anything. She appears dreamlike with her soft facial features and mystical locks. He hasn't quite gotten close to her, but would occasionally talk.
"I'm sorry, but why exactly is Lord Phainon being questioned? He isn't to blame." She spoke with a sultry voice.
"Castorice, don't misunderstand. We are merely having a discussion." Aglaea answered.
With that, they initiated the meeting. He feels as if the fate of his friend rests in his hands, so he steadies himself. Their face looks over to the wide blue sky, which looks like a small galaxy. It calms down his mind for a bit. Then, he turns around and a set of questions hit him, each taking turns.
"Phainon, why were you hiding Trailblazer from me?" Aglaea asked, her bright-coloured eyes staring, unmoved.
He thought he was finished but remained truthful anyway.
"I never meant to hide anything, Lady Aglaea. It's just your lack of empathy would scare them off, and I wouldn't want to cause distrust."
Her eyes widened but turned calm quickly. "I understand, you were trying to protect him and desired to create mutual bonds."
She backs off and opens the room for Tribbie. Her arm folded as she readjusted the sleeves of her dress.
The red-haired, young, and unassuming girl looked at him with innocence in her dazzling purple eyes. They've always been the wisest to unite everyone, inspiring and helping others to live. Her outfit also complements her friendly and outgoing nature, with little wings on her back.
"Snowy, what do you think his arrival means for us all? Is he a friend or foe in your eyes?" She asked.
"Based on what I observed, he doesn't seem to harbor any ill-intent to anyone. His eyes are honest and his smiles are genuine. I trust him."
Tribbie smiles, feeling glad for their new ally. Laughter slips off her mouth, unable to contain her excitement then passed the questioning on to the young lady. Her timid nature slowly shed and turned a little serious.
"Lord Phainon, did you know he carries an immense power within him?" She asked.
"Pardon me, but I don't quite understand." Phainon replied, shocked at the revelation.
"You may not know, but Lady Aglaea could sense hidden potentials in people. Her golden threads delve deep into a person, a remarkable feat of a demigod."
She clasped her hand and shut her eyes.
"How would you respond if he brought danger to our people?"
His body slumped as he went quiet. They awaited his answer, but instinctively felt something was off. Aglaea shook her head, with her eyelids slightly closed.
Her legs walked with grace, and unwavering in her poise. "Phainon of Aedes Elysiae, do you still wish to become a Chrysos Heir?"
He let out a sigh and moaned, "Yes. I've never shirked my duties."
"If that's so, your will must not falter, and you should be prepared to make sacrifices. Can you guarantee us that?"
His lips slightly twitched as he responded, "When danger arises in the holy city, I shall wield my blade to sever all threats."
Meanwhile, Caelus arose from his bed, looking out at the bright light radiating off Kephale. He knew a little bit about the Titans but he heard their name mentioned several times in many conversations. What a mighty figure, he thought. The way they stood as golden blood flowed from its body.
He compares them to Phainon, the way he appears strong and unstoppable. His eyes closed, admiring their conviction.
"I hope his meeting with the others went well. I wouldn't want him to get into unnecessary trouble for me."
The golden-eyed man got up, hoping to get a breath of fresh air by the balcony. He limped for a moment but immediately straightened their body. The city was full of life, as merchants came and went. A smile etched on his face as he saw a few of them arguing over market prices. That grin fades as he slowly realizes that he's missing his family.
"Will he listen to my rants? Surely someone like him isn't interested in these kinds of topics." He muttered.
Just then, he heard knocks coming from the door. It creaks open as the familiar burly frame enters the room. He sprinted across the room, greeting them fondly.
"Caelus? Did you just run to me?" He asked.
"Yeah. I'm just glad I have someone to talk with," said Caelus, in a witty tone.
Then, he noticed that they were carrying leather bags on their shoulder, and offered to take them. His action was halted, as they held the straps tighter.
"No, I mean. How are you feeling right now?"
"I feel energetic like I could do anything-" His words cut off.
"That means-" Both of them said at the same time.
Chapter 5: Acknowledgement of Her
Notes:
On Twitter, many artists had an image of Phainon as a dog metaphorically, but I think he fits more as a fox. He looks trusting but could be mischievious. Caelus fits that description much better.
Anyway, I had finished a lot of work recently. Not a big fan of numerous tasks to do in a day, but hey, I put it off for some time.
Chapter Text
They spouted, together, "You're healed!" and "I'm cured!" Their cries of joy were loud and clear, possibly even reverberating outdoors. Caelus did a silly dance, one he usually performs in front of his Astral Express family. Phainon grabbed his hand and they spun around. An overflowing wave of laughter filled the room, one with childlike wonders.
He fell to the ground, from the unescapable foxtrot, still giggling. His arms rested behind as he laid his legs out. The calm-faced, yet foxy man picked him up by his waist. He was surprised that he could be lifted so easily. The feeling of being in the air made him nervous and asked to be put down.
He was then placed on the bed, where his friend sat next to him and opened up the leather bags he was carrying. He presented many pieces of cloth to him. Caelus peeked, unfolding them all one by one. The soft texture made his skin tingle, and the way it flows satisfies his soul. Noticing his excitement, Phainon jokingly drops tons of cloth over his head. He was covered in fabrics, staring back at them, with his right eye. In a mere second, they pulled both sides of the cloth wrapped around his neck, reeling him close.
Caelus squeezes their cheeks, teasing playfully. They would only smile back, which pulsated his body.
"Seriously, what's wrong with you? Is this how you play with people?" He asked.
"If you liked it, then why should I stop?" He uttered slyly.
"You-!"
The man rests his chin on their palms, staring intently, smirking.
His face blushed, looking away to his surroundings. The vigorous man still not finished, drew his wrist to his own neck, continuing his ridicule. It slowly slides down, feeling the firm and smooth skin, a sensual and intimate form of touch. He was overcame with an intense rush. As he stared back, he noticed his neck was engraved with the mark of the sun. He ought to ask about it.
"Wait a moment. What's that on your neck?"
They stopped, brushing the side of their neck. His face changed a bit, less energetic than before. His eyes focuses on him once again.
"This, was given to me by a friend from a long time ago." He replied.
"Wow, they did a good job. What does it mean?"
"It signifies light and divinity. She believed that I could lead Amphoreus to a better future, under the guidance of Kephale."
"She must have been close to you."
"We were, until we eventually separated. My memories of her continues to fade, day by day." He responded, in a saddened tone.
"Oh.. What happened to her?"
He didn't answer his question. Instead, he stayed silent. Caelus knew he had brought up a sensitive topic and tries to change the subject.
"W-Well, hey, at least you're doing we-" His words were interrupted.
"Aedes Elysiae." He said.
"Huh?"
"I am Phainon of Aedes Elysiae. My homeland was destroyed, so I travelled to the holy city, guiding heroes to the bright path. All to avoid that calamity from happening once again." He emphasized.
Caelus wondered what he saw, to speak of it angrily as if still fresh in his memory. But he knew from past experiences, that something must have shaken him to his core. After all, he himself has travelled distant worlds, facing disasters and losses along the way. Judging from his state, he should not ask about it further. He would only give words of reassurance.
He rubs their dorsal. "Your homeland may be destroyed, but she believes in you. The fact that you're alive is a sign that you're meant for greater things."
In response, they let out a soft "huh." Their eyes shut, as they bit their lips. The pitiful man lowered his body.
After a minute or so, he got up and looked to his partner's face.
"Sorry, for bringing the mood down. We were having a lot of fun, weren't we?"
Caelus gulps. He felt bad for the situation he created. The only thing on his mind now is of worry for his patron. Never could he have expected that they had experienced something terrible by their outgoing nature.
Phainon stretched out a garment to his face.
"I was so excited to show you these clothes I bought for you. They had a sale going on, so I thought to spend a little."
"These look wonderful. Thank you for buying them for me!" He replied, still excited.
"Now, dress up. We will be taking a stroll out to the streets, Amphoreus style!"
Later, Caelus dressed in a toga, with a metal belt over his waist, and loose cloth coloured blue and gold, over his right shoulder. Before they set off, he noticed that both of their outfits looked kind of similar in terms of colours and patterns. It was probably a conscious decision by them anyway.
When he stepped outside, Phainon lit up, his arms raised above his head. Caelus stepped out slowly, getting used to his sandals that laced up to their shin. He felt the heat of the scorching sun hitting his slightly exposed shoulder. The feeling of wearing a cultural outfit riles him up though. They went through the busy plaza, where there were long lines of people queueing for something, merchants selling their goods, and even children running around in their tiny shoes.
The plaza was decorated with banners, fairy lights and endless marble pillars. Many things were happening at once. On top of the rooftops, people peered down to the scenery, mostly couples daydreaming. He has never felt more welcomed in other worlds except here.
Phainon lightly tapped his shoulder, and he turns around. They guided him to visit a distant blacksmith. The sounds of metals clanking can be heard from afar. As they got closer, the temperature around them continues to get hotter. An orange-red light emanates off a large fire behind a group of blacksmith. Phainon went up to them.
"Greetings, dear Chartonus! How are you doing on this sunny day?"
He stopped what he was doing and greeted him back. He rubbed his own hands before perching them on his waist.
"I was wondering if my request has finished." He smiled.
"Ah, for Lord Phainon, a sword it shall be."
They continued on with their conversation, while Caelus became distracted by the sight of other people resting by a fountain, pouring golden water. He always thought it was strange that the people treats it as a normal occurrence. His thought disappeared when a golden butterfly landed by his arm.
"It's another one of those butterflies." He wondered.
Chapter 6: A Tinge of Romance
Notes:
Titans do not have gender, but Cerces and Mnestia are the only ones that I think are canonically implied to be male and female. It is lovely that they left their gender neutral which gives us many interpretations of love like in the mythology.
I think I plan to end the story in 20 chapters, which might seem like a lot but not really. We'll see how it goes. Feel free to leave your comments if you're curious about my idea.
Chapter Text
Caelus lifted his arm up into the sky, taking a good look at the fascinating creature that rested on him. It shimmered like the rays of sunlight and reflected light just like metal. Though it appears so, it is soft and gentle to the touch. Barely any weight or hardness to its being. He giggled at the rare sight of it and even wondered if he could bring it back home. Perhaps he should take a picture of it.
So, he hands out his phone on his other arm and snaps a photo of it.
"Why haven't I thought of doing that?" He thought.
He looks over to the calm and serene landscape before him. Vibrant, inspiring, and soulful. How he loved staring at them.
"If March 7th was here, she'd surely love to take thousands of pictures. Dan Heng would probably entertain her antics but he's also sentimental when it comes to views."
Then, he felt a quick tap on his shoulder. He peeked back to see Phainon smiling lovingly toward him. His face looked totally handsome much closer. It might be the lighting, but he felt himself melting over his charming face. He shooed away the butterfly off Caelus's arm. It flew away to a different direction.
"Are you ready to set off, Cae?" He asked.
"Yeah, I was just waiting for you to finish."
"Let's go eat."
They went to a nearby food stall and ordered some snacks. Most of them are crusted and savory in flavor. The piping-hot filling made his tongue burn a little, which made him eat slowly. His friend devoured his food rather fast, which made him worry. Is it a Chrysos Heir thing or a civilian thing?
On the streets, he often gets asked about his looks. He received comments that he looks strange but nice to look at and doesn't know if he should take that as a compliment or not. Phainon laughed when he counted the encounters of the same thing happening. To be fair, it was mostly aged women complimenting both of them as they went.
Meanwhile, Caelus feels uncomfortable because Phainon is clearly the one garnering attention on them. His status and face are enough to pull in people. A Chrysos Heir walking around with an uncommon face? No wonder people are way more talkative today.
"It really makes my stomach churn. Is he not aware of himself?" He muttered softly.
Soon, they saw a commotion happening. A fight broke out between two men, taking place in the middle of the streets. They traded blows, punching each other in the face. Both partners stared at each other, wondering if they should do something. One secretly enjoys watching fights for the thrill while the other prioritizes peace.
Phainon went on his own to try and stop them while Caelus tagged along slowly. As soon as he stepped in, the men were powerless to fight back. His hands held them by his side, pushing them away from each other. The atmosphere was tense, as they displayed their rage, retaliating against him. One of them managed to let themself free from his grasp. In one instance, he charged at the defenseless man still held back. They fell to the ground, he continued to hit hard the other man.
Caelus immediately tried pulling back the man while his friend went for the other.
"Don't you try stopping me. This bastard hasn't received enough beating!" The man yelled.
They struggled for a bit and even wrestled for a short second. The cloth wrapped around him loosens, and he ties the man's arms to his back before restraining him to the ground. An endless amount of cussing escaped their mouth, angrily as their head lay on the floor.
"Will any of you explain yourselves?" He asked, unfettered in his words.
The bloodied man explains, "This fool is jealous that the maiden he longed for is in love with me. Honestly, what was he expecting out of this?"
His body vibrates. "I knew her far longer than you, yet she chose someone like you, a Kremnoan even. Everything was perfect before you came!"
Suddenly, he felt a slap across his face. His lips quivered, as he looked up. Caelus stared back at him, evidently pissed.
"You don't deserve anyone. You would rather blame everyone else but yourself for not taking the chance!"
"Ah..."
Phainon watches in disbelief at the scene that unfolded. His aquamarine eyes sparkled like the ocean, clear and bright. He fell in love with his courage and bravery. How blunt. What was supposed to be his duty to resolve any issues faced by the citizens was taken by someone else.
Then, he commented directly.
"Mnestia, blesses every humankind with love and affection. If they will it, then you have no right to interject."
With that, the man was taken away by a few guards for misconduct, awaiting to be punished. The other man praises and thanks both of their efforts. He was sent home to be treated by a doctor. On the other hand, they left the scene.
At home, they changed their clothes. He stared at his partner, wondering what was going through his mind. All he cared about at the moment was how he was feeling. Through a mirror, the grey-haired gentleman noticed their tall figure looking at him a few inches away. His chest pounded as he felt vulnerable, without a robe. His friend proceeds to approach him.
He asks, "Earlier, do you truly mean every word you said?"
In response, they giggled. "Of course. Everybody deserves a good partner. What's the point of fighting for a love that's not mutual?"
He continued to slam the table lightly. "That man needs a serious reflection."
Phainon places his palm on top of their hand. "Indeed, he's too delusional. I wish I could have some for certain things in my life."
"You definitely don't want that." He replied, cheerfully.
"I hope what happened today didn't give us a bad reputation too much. Some people are just crazy, which drives them to madness."
"If Amphoreus is a video game, this would definitely impact my overall experience. I'll wait until the next update for the devs to fix this." He joked.
They shared a lighthearted laugh together. Whatever tension they had before seemed to disappear altogether. In a quick moment, he got up close to his face. Both of their eyes lingered on each other. Caelus's lips twitched, unable to pull away from his pair of seductive eyes.
"Ah.. umm.." He stuttered.
His muscular arms wrapped around their lean body, and his head rested on their shoulder. Caelus swayed back a little, carrying his weight. He could feel his warm breath grazing his skin. At the same time, his hand slowly raised and rubbed their tousled silver hair. They slightly moaned from his touch.
All of a sudden, a high-pitched voice interrupted, "Miu~"
"Did you hear that?" He asked, grabbing their coat.
Phainon raised his head. "Yeah, where is it coming from?"
They scanned the room, looking through the cabinets, shelves, and other closed spaces. Whatever it was, they were nowhere to be found. However, both of them were unconvinced that they had left, keeping them on alert.
Chapter 7: Morning Dew
Notes:
If you are still here, I'm so grateful. Lately, I've lacked motivation to write which caused me to procrastinate while I do other things. 3.1 is hype, and I can't wait to get more lore on Amphoreus. If you've been keeping up with some leaks, you might be able to guess what direction I have going. Don't be shy to comment!!
Chapter Text
Phainon and Caelus glossed over the whole ordeal and moved on so as not to worry themselves. Judging by the way the creature disappeared quickly, it seemed to be of no harm to anybody. Though it frightened one, that was definitely unintentional. They lowered their guards down to display a courteous manner. However, it never responded back.
The mystery lingered for the rest of the day. After that incident, Phainon met up with Tribios at the Garden of Life. He asked if they had noticed anything strange lately. To no surprise, they had no clue what he was talking about. Their red hair glimmered underneath the sunlight, catching the attention of a distant Chrysos Heir. Mydeimos stared at their figures in the corner by a pillar, What came to be a visit turned into fueling curiosity for a new venture. He stepped out in his greaves, and the sound of clanking could be heard as he approached them.
All four of them looked at him in disbelief. Why would he come to visit them all of a sudden? It was no illusion. His light, rosy locks and markings all over his body. They could recognize him from afar despite being in the shadows. His stern posture made them a little uneasy. No matter what, Phainon wasn't going to let him be the winner of intimidation. He places his foot in front of him, asserting a slight dominance.
"Well, well. What business does the deliverer have to discuss with the high priestess? I've seen every strange thing in this world, why not ask me?" Mydei asked.
"If it isn't our great warrior, Mydei? It's good to hear you're still alive and kicking." Phainon replied, gleefully.
"Don't try to provoke me, deliverer. I only came to meet that shooting star that fell to the earth. Not even the titans could have seen that coming. An age of despair, yet here you are, brimming with needless hope."
"That is a sign of our humanity. No matter how terrible life gets, we hold on to our faith and seek a future from the tiniest things. This man is but a mere mortal in the eyes of the gods. He is here as proof of the existence of worlds beyond the skies and the spark that illuminates our hearts."
"There's no use wondering beyond the sky if even the titans have fallen silent. Only the coreflames will allow us to reshape the future, and you should strive for that."
"Don't think I've forgotten my mission. Tribbie and the others are still working hard to locate Castrum Kremnos."
He clenched his fist, "When the time comes, Nikador's coreflame shall be mine."
Tribbie butts in between them. She noticed a slight agreement despite the tension. The tall men stared down at her tiny form.
"Is everything settled already? You two can't argue forever, you know? We have to set aside our differences and create good bonds with each other." Tribbie said.
"Yeah! As much as I want to see the oh, so powerful blazing fists of Mydeimos, prince of Castrum Kremnos, unfortunately, we can't have that! Our plan would be ruined!" Trinnon exclaimed.
Mydei crosses his arms and replies, "Enough! Where can I find that man? Surely you're not hiding him, right?"
"Don't worry, he's living with Snowy! I trust his judgment and Agy is not troubled by him too. If you like, he can bring you to meet."
Phainon and Mydei glanced at each other for a moment. What was once a serious expression turned into a smirk. In just seconds, he burst into a fit of laughter.
"Hah! You're telling me this silver-tongued, corny little lost child can take care of other people? WOW, what a time to live in!"
In response, he growled and pulled his wrist, leaving the Garden of Life together. On their way out, he didn't forget to bid farewell to them. When their surroundings became more crowded, he let go of his arm and continued walking home. Mydei stood a few meters apart for some reason, remaining quiet. Phainon was thinking about Caelus and his genuine kind-hearted nature. The warmth he felt in that room melts away his worries. And the way his eyes glowed surged something within himself. A feeling he wanted to displace.
When they arrived at the front door, he knocked softly thrice before unlocking it. As he opens, Caelus was seen standing by the balcony, clothed in his Trailblazer wear. Phainon approaches him with an air of curiosity, placing his hand on their back. The man jolted as he was caught off guard. His eyes soon dilated as he looked at the familiar blue eyes.
"Ah, you scared me! I didn't hear you coming in at all!" He expressed, still in shock.
"Hehe, did Amphoreus also change the way you hear?" He joked back.
He brushed their shoulder. "Ugh, that was the most low-effort joke coming from you."
The silver-haired man snickered, then grabbed his sleeves. "Why don't we head back inside? My friend, a Chrysos Heir wishes to see you."
With that, they came in, with Mydei sitting proudly like a king on a wooden chair. He stared at the slanted eyes of the foreigner. Caelus couldn't help but tug on his shirt, trying not to look directly at Mydei's intimidating eyes. His muscular frame paired with the blazing tattoos made him appear scary. The man began to speak, a deep and harsh voice echoed.
"So, this is the gracious person that you so dearly uphold? What a strange set of clothes, you really are being truthful. Aglaea informed us that he's no ordinary person, though." Mydei stated.
He gulped. "What do you mean, uh fellow Chrysos Heir?"
Mydei stood from his seat, pushing it away, whirring it to the side. His body inches closer to him. As they stood side by side, a noticeable difference in height made him look down on his target. Caelus couldn't look away from his gaze, frozen in place. He couldn't understand what was happening and even more so with a guy like him making him sweat.
His palms were then placed on their chest. An unbearable warmth exuded from them, like a fever. Caelus's heart beats rapidly, and his fingers twitch as he tries to grasp their arm. When he got ahold of it, he couldn't even properly pull it because they were way larger. Seeing this, Phainon stepped in and pushed away their limb.
The seemingly calm burly friend embraced the startled young soul, as he looked at Mydei with an odd expression.
"What sort of power do you hold, outlander? I would even say that you hold something similar to ours." He asked, stern in his voice.
His lips trembled. "If it gets you to trust me, then I'll explain it. In my body, I carry something called a Stellaron. It's-"
His explanation was stopped abruptly when he raised his palm over his face.
"So, it is like a coreflame, right? Hence, you are a vessel for a greater responsibility."
Phainon's eyes widen, realizing the truth. He looked at Caelus, still in his arms and he raised his head back, gazing with a guilty expression. The story of the Stellaron his partner told, was him telling the truth of himself in a way.
He huffed, appearing unworried about the whole scenario. His eyes glisten and form a smile when he stares at Mydei.
"If your assumption is true, then we have a better chance at fighting the black tide. Demigod or not, his strength still counts at this time."
Phainon rubs his partner's head playfully, and Caelus laughs at his affection. Mydei still stands expressionless. His brows furrowed, rolling his eyes at their light interaction. He's not had a single dull moment with Phainon, even more with somebody similar to him.
And so, he turned his back, excusing himself to leave. Everything he needed to know had been fully received. He stomps away, going out the door. Caelus leaned by the door, tracing his figure from afar. In his mind, he became more curious about this mysterious person.
He waited until he was out of sight.
"Miu~"
Caelus looks at his surroundings, seeking that voice again. He's determined that the creature never left, and has secretly been overhearing their conversation. No matter where he looked, he could not find them.
"We mean no harm, will you please show yourself?" He asked, hoping to be answered.
In response, he felt tiny taps on his back, which he gazes above. At last, it finally revealed itself, reveling in pink.
Chapter 8: Who are you?
Notes:
I'm sorry I haven't been posting. HSR got too much for me to genuinely invest my time into. 3.4 is coming and I am excited but I would rather watch videos of the story quest than play it myself. Phainon is really cool, and the Fate collab might make me want to play a lot again. Anyways, enjoy this chapter.
Chapter Text
Caelus called out for Phainon to come to him. His hulking friend rushed outside, noticing the commotion. Strangely, he was not surprised, more like curious. He observed the tiny floating creature. Its eyes were bright blue, contrasting with its body covered in pink. It has ears as large as a bunny, but he wasn't even sure what creature it was.
The animal started to make sounds, rather adorable.
Phainon's hand was clasped by his pale partner, staring at the creature still. He smiled, knowing that he was now trusted and comfortable enough to make contact. He reveled in the moment before pulling him close. His hips swayed, teasing his partner from the side.
Caelus seemed to snap out of it, looking back at the bright sun next to him and his hair perfectly breezing in the wind. He tugged his arms down as he whispered in his ear.
"I can understand what it was saying." He said softly.
"Huh?" Phainon responded.
"It's like a real-time subtitle, which I know it's talking in its own voice, but it was translated for me. It is weird, but I know what it was saying." Caelus continued, sounding rather panicked.
"What did it say then?"
"It just said hi to us. And its name is Mem."
"Oh..."
So, Phainon looked back and forth, from its fluffy pink fur to his soft grey hair. He smirked, thinking of something funny.
"You are both small and adorable anyway, haha." Phainon blurted, unable to contain himself.
"What's up with you now? This is not the time to be funny. How would you like it if I called you a mid NPC?" Caelus replied, trying to be snarky.
"I... don't know what that means. If it is coming from you, it is most likely nothing but sweet words, am I right?" He smiled.
"Wouldn't you like to know, summer boy?"
They paused for a moment before focusing back on the floating rabbit-esque animal. Caelus reached out his hand to pet it. Instead, it insisted on shaking hands, well, its paw meeting his wide hand. A warm smile greeted them. Caelus then tries to speak with it.
"Hello, can you understand me? And how are you doing that?"
Caelus asked.
It spoke again. "Mem.. mem.. How do you know what I am saying?"
"You tell me. We can talk for as long as we like."
"Eh, it doesn't really help trying to know how." She said, seemingly stern.
"Oh, I think it does."
They continued on with their little banter for three minutes straight. Phainon stared into the void, not even trying to comprehend what was unfolding. He could only hear gibberish coming from it, while his partner looked out of his mind. Still, he keeps smiling the whole time. It was clear that he was having the time of his life, something not even he could have seen coming for decades.
Soon, both of them turned to face him. They had the same look on their face, their eyes intent on him while their cheeks were puffed, with their arms too on their hips. Phainon only stares in a daze, not knowing which one to focus on. He rubs the back of his neck, feeling a little intimidated by their large eyes.
"So, what's next? Do you guys want to go somewhere?" Phainon wondered, lowering himself closer to them at eye level.
As he said that, he glared down and noticed a plume in Caelus's grip. He wishes to know why he has that.
"Uhh, what's that you got in your hand, Caelus? Where did it come from?"
Caelus lowers his head to peek at his hand. He doesn't look like he knew that he was holding it in the first place. It is light as a feather, as they say, even if it is bigger than regular-sized feathers. Below, the shape resembles a pen tip. He observes every inch of it.
Mem swirls around the plume and leans on his shoulder. They exchanged eye contact, as if in understanding.
"Isn't it obvious? I will write down every single thing that happens in our journey."
Phainon longingly stares at him. It was undeniable that he loved staring at this man. Every second he gazed, he could feel his heart beat louder. Phainon held his hand seemingly out of instinct.
"How about we all head inside and discuss our plans further?" He insisted.
"Oh, let's go then..." Caelus replied softly.
Inside, they sat together closely, waiting for an idea. Both Caelus and Phainon wondered how they would explain Mem to Aglaea and the others. Phainon could only wait for their orders, as he had done so without fail before. With his partner around, it doesn't get lonely for him.
"Phainon, I've been meaning to ask. What do you do when you're not on a mission? I mean, surely you have a life outside of... that?" Caelus remarked.
He slightly tilted his head up. "Well... I like sparring with Mydei. He would give it his all, and so would I. With a wooden sword in my hand, I would practice my moves over and over for days. Heh, it is a good thing he can last for a long time. Truly, he's a Kremnoan."
"And.. then?"
"There's also Tribbie, Trianne, and Trinnon. They are sweet and caring to everyone. As the priest of Janusopolis, people flock to them for help and guidance. So do I." He said, while fiddling with his fingers.
Caelus repeatedly blinked his eyes. "Are we going through the list of people you know? It is good that you acknowledge them, but what do you do for yourself?"
"What do I do for myself?" He said, before cutting his speech short.
Mem and Caelus exchanged glances, feeling as if something was wrong. Was it wrong for them to question? Caelus slowly moves his palm in front of his face to grab his attention. Phainon's eyes focused again on him.
"I just want you to know who you are. Who are you? Who is Phainon exactly?" Caelus spoke with earnestness.
Phainon's face appears sullen. His eyes darted back and forth between Caelus and his own hands resting on his lap. Caelus unknowingly reached out and hugged his tall frame. He grasped his graceful silver hair as his body raised up to reach him.
A shared silence fills the air. Phainon was hesitant, but his arms went and wrapped around his partner's lean body. His fingers trembled, gripping his smooth jacket, and his head was planted upon Caelus's shoulder.
After a bit of time passed, their bodies pulled away, but their eyes couldn't remove themselves from each other's gaze. Their lips were close, and they gulped slowly. Both of them yearned for a small gesture, but Caelus looked away. However, in a swift motion, Phainon's hand gets hold of Caelus' cheek and tilts it. His lips pressed against his side.
Caelus turns pink immediately. A grin appeared on his face, of awe and embarrassment. His mind went blank, desperately trying to cover his eyes.
"A kiss to the one who came beyond the stars." Phainon smirked.
"T-Thanks... is this the custom?" Caelus responded.
"Custom-made for you."
"You're very strange. Is this what being extra-extroverted feels like?" He murmured.
"I think I need a moment. Away from all this mess."
The next moment, Caelus stepped out to the balcony. He closed his eyes, with his hands covering his face. His head rested on the balustrade as he shook, trying his best to get over the moment.
"I miss the Astral Express. Dan Heng would have probably told me to get over it because it is illogical. March 7th would have encouraged me to fuel my delusion." He murmured to himself.
"Miss Himeko and Mr. Yang would just laugh it off, something something young love."
Multiple variants of the situation, each time more romanticized and shifting, keep bubbling in his mind. Caelus started to think of what Phainon looked like in that moment. His soft gaze and his playful lips. Somebody that gentle could be even more gentle.
"Has he ever fallen in love with anyone before?" He thought.
"I guess he might be a romantic."
Mem got out to the balcony as well. It places its paw onto his dorsal. Caelus stared, still overwhelmed.
"What happened? You totally freaked out over nothing." It said, in its cute voice.
