Chapter Text

Squiddo looks out into the view of the whole server, slightly a bit intrigued at the remains that have left in spawn. If there even is any. She remembered the last time she went up here, everything beneath this building was perfectly fine. But it's not now, so that's one thing.
Squiddo turns her attention elsewhere, then spots Ash standing near the place she's standing. She immediately began walking over to him, wrapping her arms around him as some sort of greeting.

“Have you checked your communicator, Squiddo?” He asks, glancing down into her eyes.

“I don't think so,” She raises her gaze, locking eyes with Ash. “Did you send a message?”

“No no, I didn't– just, uhh… something new is happening.”

Squiddo hums to herself, letting go of his body– only for him to grab her hands. Apparently he wanted to get hugged like that. Cute. “What is this ‘something new’ you're talking about?”

“... There's a… ball…” He mutters quietly.

“...Ball? Like, football game?–”

“No no no, not– not football! I-” He looks away, laughing to himself. Or at her, who knows. “... Like, ballroom, ? Those… fancy occasions? The one where you wear… pretty, formal dresses… and all that? Like, prom?”

“Ohh…” She nods slowly. “I see. What about it?”

Ash looks down directly into her eyes, in a way that's obviously trying to form words for a question. An obvious question, too. Squiddo speaks up first before he can, “Are you- are you saying you wanna go to it with me? As like– partners?”

“... Yeah. Kinda.”

“You do know, even if you didn't ask, it's not like I would go with anyone else, right? Just you.”

“Ahh… uh, I just wanted confirmation… that's all.” He runs his hands through his hair nervously. Squiddo brings his head down gently and planted a small kiss on his forehead.

“But… It's kinda weird that we're suddenly holding a ball… we've never done that before.” He added. She hums in agreement.

“That's- that's why you should have a dagger in your pocket in case something bad happens, babe.”

He cackles, “Another excuse to do that, huh.”

Squiddo gazed into his eyes for a while, then turned her attention back to the sky before them. She wanted to keep the silence uninterrupted at first, but a question popped up in her mind that needed to be answered. “... Ash- uhh… random question?”

“What?”

“Have you talked to Mumbo recently?” She mutters, her voice dropping down to a very quiet, low whisper. Ash shakes his head as a response.

“When I talked to him after he was revived, he… he seemed weird. No, 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 weird. It's like someone else was behind his eyes, not him.” Squiddo exclaimed.

“... Really? Like, how weird?”

“He's just– completely the opposite from his usual self. A bit too confident. Not that I'm saying it's bad for him– it's– i-it feels wrong.”

He hums, then holds her hand tight, “Well if he's a bit better you shouldn't worry too much about it. It'll take a toll on ya, you know?”

“I…Guess you're right…” She mutters, then rests her head on his shoulders. “I just feel like, something's a little bit off between him and his…his husband?”

“Ohh..– w-wait, husband?” He looks down at her with a confused look.

“Yeah. Husband.” She blinks, then the realisation hits her. “Oh wait, did I forget to tell you they're already married? Oh I'm sorry–”

“Ah, I probably just forgot… that's fine. Don't worry about it.”

She gazed into his eyes for a moment, consuming the view in her sight before slowly turning her attention towards the sky. The light blue has faded into an orange hue. Did she really stood there for that long? She's lost her sense of time.

Everything feels like it's crumbling apart– just, everything around them. Like everything's frozen in time. It's so weird, she knows this is probably the tamest thing to happen on Lifesteal, so that means she shouldn't be so, 𝘴𝘰 weirded out. By someone acting differently than before. That happens too many times.

She sighs, then hesitantly lets go of Ash. “I'm… tired. I'm gonna… go take a nap.” She muttered, a tiny smile making its way onto her face. He returned it back.

Squiddo waves a goodbye at him for the last time, then walks off into the entrance of the base. After finding a quiet place to sit by herself, Squiddo let out a breath she wasn't aware that she's holding.

Maybe he's right. Maybe she shouldn't worry too much about someone who's probably living the best life right now. He's doing fine– their friendship is… Somehow fixed, in some way. But that's a good thing! He's becoming a better him. Unless she was too stupid and saw all this the wrong way, there's probably nothing to worry about. Right now she should just focus on herself! Right?

Stay away from problems that's not related to her.

That's right.
