Chapter Text

Hob found some dead guy and took his jacket, he needed it more anyways. A thing of about 12 or so units fell out of the pocket. Hob got an idea. He looked around. Everyone was running, no one was guarding the Collector’s desk. And that’s where the units were.

When the deed was done, Hob walked out of the Collector's den, and looked around. Corpses littered the ground, they were mainly the poor souls that were taken and imprisoned by the Collector. He felt a twinge of guilt, they didn't ask to be here.

Nobody paid much attention to him, as he pushed his way through the panicking crowd. Mostly because there were a bunch of ships zipping around shooting at each other. He heard someone screaming about a man named Ronin. Whatever it was, it wasn't his business.

Hob needed to find a ship, he didn't even know how he was gonna fly it, but he had to get out of here. He couldn't wait another second to feel those turtles squirm under his claws.

The ringing in his head was mostly gone by now, though he couldn't hear out of one of his ears. Hob chalked it up to all the noise though.

Hob ducked as a ship exploded above him. Well that was just rude, they could've flew up a bit. Suddenly he saw it, an orange and blue ship. It was small, but that didn’t matter. It just needed to get him to earth. He looked around and picked up a brick and was about to smash it against the window before he thought better of it.

Those windows kept all the air in, and he kind of needed that. Ok so how the hell else was he gonna get the damn thing open. Hob walked around the ship a couple times before he located where the door was. He was about to try pulling it open, before he heard footsteps approaching the ship.

Hob quickly hid. He looked around for a weapon to use in case that was the owner(after they opened the ship of course.) His ears pricked to listen for any sounds. Hob peeked over his hiding spot. It was the raccoon, Hob dropped the stone. For some reason, he didn't want to hurt him.

Out of his companions there were only 2 with the raccoon. The grey guy-who upon closer inspection had red…tattoos? And the tree thing.

“Oh boo hoo, my wife and child are dead!” The tree thing gasped at the raccoon's words. “Everyone has dead people, that's no excuse to get everyone else dead along the way!”

“Come on Groot, let's get out of here. We might be able to get to the other side of the universe and live full lives before that wackjob reaches us.” The raccoon huffed. So its name was Groot?

“I am Groot.” Groot said.

“I know they're the only friends we've ever had, but what chance do we have against Ronan?” Who the hell was this Ronan guy? He seemed dangerous. None of this really mattered to Hob, he just wanted to get back to Earth. But if there was some crazy maniac hell bent on destroying the universe for whatever reason, well that would definitely put a dent in his plans.

Hob turned back to the group, the raccoon was angrily kicking grass. Maybe he could make some sort of deal with them. Hob patted his pocket, happy that he thought to steal units earlier. The raccoon was opening the ship. If he was gonna strike a deal it would have to be now.

Hob stood up, brushing dirt off his pants. He slowly approached the group. The raccoon whirled around, gun in hand. Hob raised his hands, he couldn’t tell if the raccoon recognized him or not.

“What do you want?” The raccoon growled. Hob took a couple steps back.

“I just need a ride.” Hob replied. The raccoon scoffed.

“We aren’t a charity case flea bag, and we’ve got bigger things to worry about.” The raccoon said, turning to his friends.

“Wait!” Hob shouted, causing the raccoon to turn back to him. He pulled the bag of units out of his pocket. “I’ve got units.”

The raccoon looked him up and down, then at his friends. “Where are you going?”

“Earth.” Hob replied. The raccoon huffed.

“Fine, but you’re gonna have to wait, we’ve got to rescue our friends.” Hob perked up at his words.

“What’s a few more days?” Hob replied. The raccoon shook his head, but opened the ship. Hob followed the group. Though he would admit, he wasn’t used to being with a group. So he felt a little awkward sitting with them.

“What’s your name, cat?” The grey guy asked. Hob looked around.

“Um, it’s Hob. Old Hob.” The raccoon scoffed.

“What kind of name is that?” The raccoon asked as the ship started to take off.

“I didn’t choose it.” Hob shot back. “What about you guys?”

“Rocket, those two are Drax and Groot.” The raccoon- er Rocket replied.

“I am Groot.” Groot said. Hob nodded.

“Noted.” He muttered. The ship took off, and Hob covered his ears at the loud engines. He looked out the window. He spent his entire life in New York until now, and he never really saw a view like that. He would miss it when he returned to earth.
