Chapter 13: Between Slippers and Statues

Chapter Text

"HAWKS PATROLS IN SLIPPERS! CITY REACTS WITH LOVE AND CONFUSION"

By: Rinko Sato | HeroNews Japan
Published August 22, 20XX (just hours before Deku’s slip-up)

The morning began peacefully, with clear skies... until a Pro Hero was spotted flying through the city wearing what appeared to be chick-shaped slippers.
Confirmed: it was Hawks.

“I forgot everything but my will to work,” the hero laughed when intercepted by reporters. He was wearing his patrol jacket, dark sunglasses… and, indeed, slippers.
He didn’t explain how or why it happened, but did stop for several selfies with civilians before heading back to his agency.

🗨️ What the net is saying:

@RedWing_Fanclub
💬 I love that Hawks is out here fighting crime like he just rolled out of bed. Iconic behavior.

@HeroFitReview
💬 Chick slippers?? Is this a fashion statement or a sleep-deprivation emergency?

@ProHeroStyleWatch
💬 Honestly, it’s the closest we’ve gotten to a hero pajama runway. I support this energy.

@MidoriyaCore
💬 I know Deku saw those slippers and immediately started a Pinterest board titled "Hawks Casual Looks."

@wingedchaos
💬 If this man catches villains in bird slippers, I’m going to cry. Out of admiration.

@quirkless_fashion
💬 Imagine being arrested by someone in fluffy yellow feet. Life peaked. That’s it.

@tiredheroenergy
💬 Hawks said: “Self-care is real. And also I forgot my boots.” This is peak Pro Hero relatability.

"CIVILIANS MISTAKE ENDEAVOR FOR A STATUE AND LEAVE HIM OFFERINGS"

What started as a short break during patrol ended with the Hero surrounded by fruit, flowers… and a thank-you letter written in crayon.

Enji Todoroki, also known as Endeavor, was seen this Tuesday standing completely still in Central Plaza, observing traffic from atop a concrete structure. He wore his usual hero suit and maintained his signature serious expression.
That was enough for at least four tourists and several locals to believe he was a new statue honoring the hero.

“I took a picture, thanked him for protecting us, and left an apple,” said a 78-year-old woman. “It wasn’t until I saw him move that I realized… and I fainted!”

Apparently, Endeavor noticed the misunderstanding too late. “I was still for less than two minutes. People just appeared out of nowhere. Someone started reciting a poem,” he commented, frowning. “I’m not angry. Just… confused.”

Endeavor’s agency has yet to release an official statement, but the hero’s youngest son, Shoto Todoroki, shared a cryptic post on his X account:

“If people are going to keep mistaking him for a statue, I suggest we add a plaque: ‘Endeavor in his natural habitat. Year 20XX. Medium: emotional stillness.’”

🗨️ What the net is saying:

@natsuo.todoroki
💬 I didn’t know whether to laugh or clap. So I did both.

@fuyumi.tdrk
💬 Can’t you be a little nicer? …Although I admit that was pretty funny.

@trueendeavorfans
💬 Our hero deserves respect, not jokes! 😤

@shoutopleasecrushme
💬 “Emotional stillness” is now my status message. Thank you, Shoto.

@burnbabyburn
💬 How did we go from a crayon letter to passive-aggressive poetry by his son? This family is an unscripted Netflix drama.

@icemystepbrother
💬 Is Shoto a conceptual artist now or just done with his dad?

@katsukiforeverr
💬 Bro, just say you like the traffic cone cosplay.

@mintcreamjournal
💬 Shoto disrespects his father with such class I feel like I should be taking notes.
