Chapter Text
Strange World is directed by Don Hall and it stars Jake Gyllenhaal of Nightcrawler, Jaboukie Young-White of C'mon C'mon, Gabrielle Union of Bad Boys II, Lucy Liu of Payback and Dennis Quaid of Everybody's All-American. It concerns Searcher Glade (Gyllenhaal), a simple farmer who used to travel the world with his father (Quaid) whose country's president (Liu) calls him for a mission that his wife and son join to discover a world of bizarre and esoteric lifeforms.
A film with environmental messaging and no true antagonist, this is another sad tale of a decent film being done in by lack of marketing and being put against films from more recognized franchises. The film's quality mainly suffers from, while decently told, not giving me anything I haven't seen before. Besides a well-done queer subplot, there's nothing that stood out to me here. I apologize for the lack of content in this review but...I think Disney owes everyone who worked on an alright film a bigger apology for neglecting it in favor of surer bets.
I give this film three and a half paws out of five. I hope you join me next time for more obscure waters.
