Hondo always liked to check in on the big news from the Inner Rim, using it to benefit him and get a head start on some…profitable business ventures.
When he heard the news that General Obi-wan Kenobi had been killed by a sniper, he was surprised to feel like his whole world had shattered at that moment.
Kenobi…gone.
Just like that?
No chance for them to have one more drink together…for him to say goodbye.
It was alarming just how quickly he started to miss him…not just the Jedi that traded witty banter with him, but the Obi-Wan who he would spend nights curled up with. The one he had shared kisses with and made love to in a mass of pillows and blankets.
He got to his feet and went to grab something strong to drink.
…..
A faked death.
Used to trap some bounty hunters in some plot against the Republic. Honestly, Hondo hadn’t paid all that much attention, finding that he was actually hurt by this betrayal, more so than any other betrayal he had faced in his life.
Was it really such a surprise, that when he saw Obi-Wan wandering around on a planet that he just ‘happened’ to be on, he saw an opporunity to try and get some proper answers.
No clone soldiers around.
Perfect.
He casually laid in wait, noting that Obi-Wan’s hair was shorter and his beard was no-where near as lucious as it used to be.
And he looked…sad.
He had never looked so sad before.
Sad and tired.
Hondo was silent for a moment, before waiting for Obi-Wan to come by his hiding place, reaching out and grabbing him, pulling him into the shadows and pinning him against the wall.
It felt wrong that Obi-Wan just...let him.
"Hondo." Obi-Wan sighed, giving him a smile that was weaker than it usually was.
"Kenobi." Hondo sighed, "It is good to have you back, though I will say, that my heart hurts at the memory of thinking that we wouldn't get our little...meetings ever again."
He felt a little overwhelmed seeing those eyes staring up at him.
He had mourned this man for months, longer than he had mourned his old man (may he rot in the pits...said with affection). He thought that he had well and truly lost him, unable to forget that crushing feeling his chest that he felt when he first found out.
And now...here he was.
Now, he needed Kenobi more than anything.
“Hondo, I really- “
Hondo was already pulling him towards his ship. The Jedi could stop him if he really wanted to, so this technically wasn’t a kidnapping.
“Hondo!”
“You owe me Kenobi!” Hondo knew his voice probably sounded a little harsh, but he didn’t care, “That is probably the worst betrayal I have ever experienced in my life! And that is saying something!”
Obi-Wan looked a little taken aback at the statement, before clearing his throat, “I-I didn’t have a choice with this mission.” He confessed, “No-one knew about it, not even Anakin or Ahsoka.” He gave Hondo a tight little smile, “I definitely didn’t have time to send you a comm about it.”
Hondo scoffed, “And then you spend so much time with Bane! Someone who would love to get you into his bed, had he just the chance!”
“…What?”
“I hope there’s been nothing between you both, I would hate to have to get my revenge on such a good friend.”
Obi-Wan looked a little uncertain about that but said nothing.
“Such a lack of trust.” Hondo sighed, “After everything we’ve been through.”
“…I’m sorry.”
“I think I deserve a proper apology, no?” Hondo pulled him closer, until they were pressed as close as they could possibly be, silently telling him exactly what kind of apology he expected, “I mourned you, you know…. I felt like my life had come apart. This was my worst nightmare you know.”
He wasn’t sure that he had ever been so honest in his life.
He felt a bit sick actually.
“You gotta earn that trust back you know.” He played off the emotional words.
Obi-Wan looked lost for words, but Hondo continued.
“Fair warning…it might be just a little bit rough this time.” He smirked, “I think I need to make you remember me, so you don’t try this again, hmm?”
For a moment, Obi-Wan said nothing, before he chuckled, one hand reaching up and ghosting along Hondo’s jawline.
“I think…. that might be just what I need.” The Jedi confessed, as Hondo beamed.
“Now that’s what I like to hear!”
