He works three under-the-table jobs, patrols at night in a suit held together by desperation, and survives on barely edible food and sheer willpower. His healing factor is failing. His body is crashing. And he’s not sure how much longer he can keep going.

    Then he runs into Bucky Barnes. THE Winter Soldier.

    Peter slips. Says too much. Moves too fast. And Bucky, who shouldn’t remember him, starts asking questions. Questions that could unravel everything.

    Now Peter’s spiraling, terrified that one moment of recognition could collapse the universe all over again. With nowhere left to turn, he makes a choice: break into Avengers Tower, patch up his suit, and maybe, just maybe, survive one more night.

    Loki of Asgard had not felt a summoning in a very, very long time. He’d thought the spells lost - the people who once worshiped him, a minor trickster god, long gone. Yet time hadn’t dulled his senses. Loki knew what it was that called to him as he walked through the forests near his home.

    It was the whim of a moment to decide to follow that summoning and see where it went. All a summoning could do was alert Loki that someone wanted him. It couldn’t force him there. That had always been up to the one being called. But Loki’s morning was slow, and the summoning was interesting. It held actual power to it. Not just the power given by a simple spell cast by a worshiper - this person was no worshiper. There was no faith behind the spell. There was, however, blood. Blood had been used in the spell, and it carried to it the kind of natural power that spoke of more than a simple Midgardian should possess.

    Loki reached out to his seidr and let it guide him through the secret paths of Yggdrasil that took him down to Midgard.

    When he arrives, what he finds isn't at all what he'd expected.

    “Mister Murdock?” Peter gasps impulsively, and realizes his mistake only when the masked guy’s head snaps up, his shoulders tensing like he’s been stabbed.

    He recognizes him now—he’s not just the lawyer, Matt Murdock. He’s Daredevil. Who has, as much of the public knows, some extreme form of super senses. 

    Peter freezes on the rooftop. Daredevil ditches the fight after some well-aimed blows—more vicious now, which turns Peter’s stomach, knowing how vigilantes feel about their identities—and lunges onto the roof beside Peter with a certain graceful violence that Peter, however experienced a vigilante he may be, finds himself fearing.

    Daredevil paces up to him, closes a hand around Peter’s throat, and hisses, “Who are you?”

    So Peter was right.
