When things start to boil over is late at night. Travis walks the streets like a dead-man. Covered in blood and gore like the last girl in a horror movie. He limps, mutters slurred words, and stares ahead of him. A car pulls up, his father. He freezes when Travis saw him leave the car in a blind anger. Before he could defend himself, he is on the ground with a aching pain in his jaw. He can't even curl up to protect his organs because he is dragged by his arm into the car. Travis doesn't know and neither is Kenneth is aware of the prying eyes that is Sal Fisher. He had just watch that through his window. And he had a plan, but Travis would have to trust him. That will be the hard part.

Being an artist is hard- this was something Travis Phelps had learned from a very young age. After a near-fatal suicide attempt, Travis finds himself sent to a Catholic School for Adolescent Boys during his early sophomore year. Time doesn’t seem to stop, and as his Junior year unfolds, Travis has to begin thinking about his plans for his life beyond the walls of this dumb school. Adding to his challenges, Travis is wrestling with a mix of new and complicated emotions when he gets a strange new roommate with a prosthetic face, bright blue hair, and a guitar, who makes it his life's mission to get Travis over his chronic art block.

Travis Phelps has two more years of high school left before he nopes out of his shitty life and ceases to exist in the fever dream that is Nockfell. He'll get away from his dad and his church, or, more accurately, his cover for a cult. Travis has no intention of making any friends to leave behind, or becoming a star student, and definitely no intention of playing hero. He just wants to keep his head down and get good enough grades to get accepted into a college. After that, everything will fall into place.
Until Mrs. Sanderson dies, and Kenneth forces him to meet the kid who conveniently moved in right next to where she used to live. The blue haired kid, Sal Fisher, is an intriguing mystery at first, before he starts attracting them. The two of them, plus the friends Sal collects along the way, solve mystery after mystery, plunging them further into the web of suspicious activity in Nockfell. Travis has to sort through his connections and figure out if maintaining a down low reputation is more important than the herodom he never wanted, a herodom that comes with Sal Fisher, who might be becoming a bit more than a mystery to Travis.
