Summary
Zichen hugged him tighter, helping Xingchen wrap his arms around his own torso. He needed him close, needed him to feel as safe as he could. He rubbed his back and wished desperately that there was not a mask keeping him from planting soft kisses against Xingchen’s cheeks. “I’ve got you…” He squeezed his eyes shut, fighting back the hot tears he felt pressing in his ducts.
Xingchen reached up, hand trembling as he rested it against the mask. "If... If they get this gas right with me... I... I won't have to watch you... Suffering like this... I don't... I don't want you to be in this, Zichen..." He was wheezing as he inhaled, his chest barely rising.
Zichen stroked beneath Xingchen’s eye with his thumb. His voice was watery and tight now. "They will test it on me even if you test it a thousand times, Xingchen..." He stroked bloody tears from Xingchen’s eyes.
