Geralt didn't flinch, it was nothing he hadn't heard hurled at him before, usually followed by a derisive laugh from the speaker. The stranger in the gym might not have even meant for him to hear the word.
Even when people had heard about Witcher Syndrome, they seemed to forget about the more acute senses, like hearing. So he pretends that the insult had just been an aside that the man behind him had meant to keep to himself, and continues his workout.

Witcher Syndrome is a disorder that causes genetic mutations to occur to those who develop it. While some symptoms could almost be considered advantageous, others are clearly detrimental to those affected. As with any disability, there are those with prejudices against those that are “other” or “different”.
Geralt has spent most of his life learning to protect himself from being hurt by those who won’t understand that his differences don’t make him a freak.
But, it will take someone with quite a lot of zest for life and self-love, to show Geralt how to be okay with himself, and to remind him that at the end of the day, he is still only human.
Someone like Jaskier.

The man is huddled, his back pressed to the wall, arms wrapped around his legs and his chin propped up on the tops of his knees. He is wide eyed, visibly alarmed when he looks at them, his body tense as a bowstring. His face is thin, hollow and worn, filthy where it looms above his knees.
