You have heard how a simple Dalish woman from Clan Lavellan became Herald of Andraste, then the Inquisitor. She defeated Corypheus and talked down her lover, the Dreadwolf, who would have destroyed the future to bring the past back. Everyone in Thedas has told this story; it has been changed to suit the people's narrative, but a true storyteller would look between the pages and see the truth.
But there is one story the people of Thedas have not heard, not even from the world-renowned writer Varric Tethras, who chased stories far and wide and died trying to finish one final tale.
It tells how the Dreadwolf and the Inquisitor first met long before the Inquisition started.
It began in ancient Arlathan, where a group of powerful mages called the Evanuris ruled the elven people, where in June’s palace, he did what is considered forbidden. With the help of Falon’Din, his eldest brother, they summoned a spirit from the fade and granted her a body.
What June did not know was that this spirit would witness nightmares beyond her imagination. Forcing her to look for the slave rebellion and work with the one person she never would have thought of, the rebel leader. Fen’Harel. -

The fragment of Mythal that she still carries with her offers one last option to fix this mess: go back in time with her and stop Elgar'nan and the others from using the Blight in the first place.
Now Rook will have to play her part as a seer in this dangerous game, guided by the goddess now attached to her. But convincing the gods of the folly of their plans is a monumental task, especially with a leader like Elgar'nan, whose arrogance knows no bounds.

Instead of being thrown back into the Fade, Solas is thrown back into the past, during the golden age of Arlathan, when they defeated the Titans but the Evanuris hadn't claimed godhood yet. It sounds like a dream come true, except that this means he has to rebel, again.

A spirit is called from the world that dreams into the world that wakes. He is given the name Solas, and then he is told to forget he ever was a spirit at all. He grows up as the son of a washerwoman, a servant of Mythal the All-Mother, and knows no life but the life of the incarnated. Until his brother is kidnapped by Andruil, on the hunt for fresh blood to feed her Champion's vile experiments. Solas attempts to petition Mythal for his brother's release, but is offered an alternative instead: work for the Mother of the Evanuris, rise through the ranks, and gain enough power to free his brother himself. But unknown to him, and to the other Evanuris, history is being nudged (or perhaps shoved), and Solas will soon find himself in the position to change the course of Elvhenan forever.
Note as of 31/10/2024: This fic does not follow Veilguard’s established backstory for Solas, as it was drafted and outlined (but not written) much earlier than the game’s release.

When Mythal brokers peace between Falon’din and Elgar’nan, her life and dreams are the price that must be paid.
An arranged marriage AU where Solas and Lavellan are forced into each other’s lives, for better or for worse, to keep Elgar’nan and Falon’din from fighting. Shenanigans ensue.

You learn a lot about yourself. Who you really are, deep down inside. What lines you'll cross to stay alive, to try and get home. Who you think you can trust, who you think you love. Just how many lies you'll be willing to tell to keep your secrets. How much blood you're willing to shed.
I shed a lot of it, in Kirkwall, and I've spent seven years in purgatory as a result. Seven years trapped somewhere beyond reality, but not quite in the Fade. My only company myself, and a Desire Demon just as unhappy with the situation as I am. Oh. And... an Elven Goddess, I suppose.
Kind of hard to forget about her, since she's the one giving the orders now. Giving me the truth of how I ended up in Thedas, why I ended up there, and just what she expects me to do now that the Inquisition has begun. Can't say I'm happy about any of it, or that I'm about to actually follow her orders.
But then... I'm not sure how much of a choice I'll have.

My goal here was to find the "ideal" way to synthesize pre-existing Dragon Age lore to fit an idea that came to me, which was Dirthamen and Falon'Din "sharing" two archdemons. I also found a way to tie in ideas I had about Sylaise. See my "Sylaise, Goddess of High Civilization" post: https://archiveofourown.info/works/60060910. This writing is intended as a parody of this codex entry from Dragon Age: The Veilguard: https://dragonage.fandom.com/wiki/Codex_entry:_Elven_Gods_and_Tevinter_Gods. There are definitely things I like about the Old God-Evanuris correspondence in Bioware's canon, namely Dirthamen being tied to Dumat (having the god of secrets be the master manipulator) and June being tied to Urthemiel (the most enigmatic of the Evanuris is related to the most distinctly beautiful of the Old Gods). As they're represented in canon, Dirthamen and June are probably my two favorite Evanuris.
