He flickered his eyes down briefly before forcing them up to his face. Neither did well for his heart but after glancing at the provocative outfit he was wearing, Diluc had to breathe out slowly through his nose as he recited the Knight’s Code of Conduct in his head.

“I didn’t know you could play the flute, much less carve one,” Xiao comments, leaning into Aether’s side just slightly.
Aether lowers the flute from his lips and pulls his knife out once more, returning to the task of refining its shape. “It’s a skill I picked up many centuries ago,” he explains, the steady schick, schick, schick of the blade on wood turning to background noise behind their conversation. “A friend of mine taught me to carve and play them. It will never sound just right, but it’ll be enough to carry a tune without bursting your eardrums.” His lips curve up into an amused smile.
Xiao hums in acknowledgement, and a moment later Aether feels him drop his head down to rest against his shoulder, a comfortable weight. “You will have to play for me once it’s finished. I have not heard the sound of a flute in many years.”
“You’ll be the first to hear it.” Aether takes a brief respite from his carving so he can press a kiss to the crown of Xiao’s head, right between his curved horns.
