That's when he heard ringing.
He could barely hear it at first. It sounded like it was miles away. It was probably from another apartment, anyway. Who would be calling him?
But it kept going.
He wasn't sure if it was the curiosity of who was calling him or the shock that the angel may have answered his prayers, but he pulled himself together enough to be able to stand up and walk over to the phone. With a still glitching hand, he picked up the receiver and slowly held it up.
"Hello?" His voice was quavering and barely audible over the static that was coming out of the receiver.
What the hell?
"Is this-- is this some kind of prank?"
His breath became more unstable than it already was as he went to put the phone down, but something stopped him dead in his tracks.
A voice.
But it didn't sound like it was coming from his phone. No. It sounded like it was coming directly from his own head.

It was a foregone conclusion that Tenna was stronger than Spamton. It was obvious in everything about him. In his stature, towering so high that Spamton barely reached above the knee of his resting height. In his status as the ruler of his Dark World, where Spamton was just a regular Addison in his. It followed, then, that their magic followed the same rule. Spamton was weak, even by Addison standards, but it wouldn’t have mattered. Tenna was the ruler of an entire Dark World. Reality itself bent to his whims here. Spamton’s magic was a fading candle in the face of Tenna’s bonfire, fighting to stay lit. So weak that his attacks hardly felt like attacks at all.
OR: In the Big Shot Era, Tenna realizes the full force of his and Spamton's power differential. In the present day, Spamton demonstrates just how much he's changed since then.

Summary
Spamton’s roots were growing out. It took a while for Tenna to notice, or maybe it just took a while to happen. His body was so different now, hard plastic where there had once been soft feathers, gaping, empty sockets that had once held sharp eyes. Static and unchanging. Wounds that would have once healed with time now had to be carefully repaired and his blood was no longer a familiar, humanizing red. He was a doll in more than just appearance. And, like a doll, his hair didn’t grow. Or at least, it hadn't.
OR: Tenna notices that Spamton's stopped dying his hair, despite how vital he knows it was to him. He tries to help without completely ruining whatever fragile truce they've managed to construct.

“You know I’m not judging you,” Tenna huffed. “It’s fine if you want to dye your hair! I was just curious.” Spamton’s forced smile slowly withered down into a small frown. He grabbed a loose strand of hair between his thumb and forefinger, spinning it in his grip. Tenna crossed his arms expectantly as he watched Spamton mull over how he wanted to respond. He really didn’t see what the big deal was.
“Fine, yeah, I dye it,” Spamton admitted finally. He gestured at his hair with his free hand. “Gotta have a signature style.”
“Oh,” Tenna said. “Oh, yes, of course!” He laughed to himself. “I’m all for it! It does rather suit your brand!”OR: Tenna discovers that Spamton dyes his hair and it quickly snowballs into something bigger than he was expecting.

Summary
Spamton is your usual young adult, he's a bird like the rest of the Addisons, he's a wannabe salesman, he lives- well, he manages, even if his home is a smelly, unappealing dumpster.
That is to say, he's a pretty normal Darkner.
Except for the parts where he's not.
...
One of them being his birth defect.
His wings.
.....
The next morning, he goes out and leaves scraps of food by the nearby dumpsters that he suspects Spamton might frequent. He sticks sticky notes to the bags, from "Still safe -T", to "Chamomile waiting -T".
He also leaves a lunchbox in the alley outside his home, a sticker with "No expired soda. No strings attached. Just cookies and bandages -T" on it.
He goes back later and finds most of the items missing, the notes too, aside from one, left crumpled on the ground, curiosity pushes him to open it.
"Come home" stares back at him in cursive letters, his lip wobbles.
