The man before him now was not Yingxing. Jing Yuan did not know if he remembered those tender nights, just the three of them, basking in the knowledge of being loved for who they were. Not for a title, not for an aspiration - simply for being themselves. He wondered if he remembered those good times where they basked in the dying sun, laying upon grass, flowers of all kinds woven into their hair. Did he remember Jing Yuan’s protests as he brushed those little sprouts out of his lion’s mane? Did he remember that young man’s huff as he told the bladesmith that it hurt? Did he remember that pure laugh of their Vidyadhara companion?
No matter what happened or what they faced, they did so as partners, born of desire and love that only Yingxing had the courage to pursue. Because of him, Jing Yuan had experienced so much love, and so, so much loss.
Jing Yuan would never know, and perhaps, that was the thought that kept him up at night. How much of Blade was Yingxing, and how much of Yingxing was Blade?

Time is a confusing concept, Dan Heng thought, as he shoved Blade back, his opponent regaining his place almost immediately. It was fleeting. It waited for no one. In the end, all of them would succumb to time, and death, no matter what circumstances led to it.
Here, now, Dan Heng had a dream, though. He would chase it like he was not a long life species, chase it with the love and passion of a human who lived once, lived short, burned like a spark, quick and fast. He would chase it like a mortal, whirling around the place made of water and love and desire and all things human. He would live once and he would live it well, unburden himself of the shackles made of tears and fog and mist, made of blood and memories of a man before him.
He would live like Dan Feng never existed, and he would live as Dan Heng.
