Summary
Curtis knows a lucky break when he sees one, and while the house is out of the way and needs some repair, it’s a house of his own. The longer commute to work is annoying, but it’s through beautiful country, and he doesn’t mind living so close to the border at all. Having the Feral Nation so close is fascinating. Curtis has always gotten along fine with kemonomimi, but he has only known legal humans, and one pet dog, and well, Curtis loves dogs, so a guy with ears and tail who thinks just like a dog and wants to play fetch is fine by him. Ferals are a whole different situation. Curtis has yet to see any of them, and he’s not surprised, really. They have better things to do than hang around by the fence all day.

Summary
The whole thing feels like a dream, or even one of those vivid hallucinations Shiro used to have in the hospital. Even with Curtis’s number in his phone as proof, he’s still having a mild existential crisis when Keith gets home. Just sitting there, staring at the TV’s screen saver rather than any programming, Kosmo curled up at his feet and looking concerned instead of bugging him for a walk or a treat or something.
“Shiro, goddammit, are you freaking out?” Keith grumbles, dropping his bag and coat and sliding out of his boots as he comes striding over. “You’re supposed to call me if you start freaking out.”

This isn’t the first time, and it won’t be the last. Curtis knew that when he took the job, and he doesn’t regret anything. Still, he can’t help a little sigh as he turns from locking the office door to see a man bolting down the street toward him at top speed, clutching a small animal carrier.
“Please!” he gasps, and Curtis is already unlocking the office. Even if the poor guy didn’t sound so desperate, Curtis can never turn away an animal in need.

It’s a warm day in October when trouble walks into Shiro’s office from the Barbary Coast. Miles of leg made longer by royal blue pinstripe that almost matches his impossible eyes, so bright against that beautiful dark skin. Shiro has seen a blue-eyed negro before, he didn’t make it look anywhere near this good. “Excuse me?” the man asks. “Mr. Shirogane?” And he pronounces it pretty close to right, too, as he turns his grey hat around and around by the brim in his nervous hands with their long, pretty fingers.
“Guilty as charged,” Shiro says, and sits up straight. “How may I help you?”

Summary
Shiro always rolls his eyes when his friends tease him about having a crush on tozul_terrariums, but that’s really only because he knows not to protest too much. He totally does. Tozul just has this really gentle voice, seems like a sweet, genuine guy, and his channel unavoidably has a lot of shots of his beautiful hands. All Shiro can be sure of is their great size and elegant shape, since they’re always covered in black latex gloves. Which is kind of a problem of its own, if Shiro is going to be completely honest. To himself, in the silent watches of the night, Shiro can admit that he would love to have those long, slender fingers in his mouth, that soft voice telling him what a good boy he is. It has definitely been too long, this is getting embarrassing.

Summary
For all the spooky rumors about Misktonic University, it’s not so bad. Really, Curtis will take all the place’s ghillies and ghosties and long-legged beasties over the smug, milk-white and meat-pink little boys who call him ‘darkie,’ and worse when they think they can get away with it. The library enforces quiet, and the awful age and frightening contents of so many of its volumes shocks the little bastards into silence. And like any library, it’s cool in summer and warm in winter, and the order is soothing. Besides, Curtis has always loved books.

Summary
A lot of surgeons are basically robots, the kind of sociopath who has decided to be helpful. Curtis bears them no ill-will, after all, he likes cats just fine, but he has a feeling that Shirogane might be a little less able to compartmentalize than a lot of his colleagues. He’s also young to be so good, only a couple of years older than Curtis, and that can’t help. Seeking him out in the breakroom makes sense, especially since Curtis could not only use a break, but is at loose ends. Normally he would be doing all the usual post-birth stuff, but both of his patients are in recovery and the NICU respectively, and the father has been embraced by family.

The absolute worst part of all of this, as far as Curtis is concerned, is that Shiro is wonderful. Worse than his well-meaning family nagging him about getting a boyfriend, oh, his little prima Rosaria is getting married, when is he going to settle down? Until he had had some kind of panic and done something completely uncharacteristic and lied. Worse than that panic, worse than running with that stupid lie about a new boyfriend, worse than all the worrying and planning and feeling like an idiot, worse than worrying that Lance would give them away from winking at him all the time, is this moment, right here and now.
It’s getting late, but of course people are still dancing, it’s a Dominican wedding. Shiro’s hair is a tousled mess, and he’s in that devastating half-out-of-formalwear state, jacket slung over the back of his chair, tie tugged down and top three buttons undone. He doesn’t drink, but he’s having his guava soda in a rocks glass with a little pink umbrella, and it only adds to the impression.

Last week, if someone had asked Cahtiz what he would do if Commander Shirok turned out to be a Blade of Marmora, he wouldn’t have known the answer, even if honesty was a good idea. He does know that the correct answer is to immediately subdue this dangerous double agent and turn him in for interrogation, and is just as certain that he would never be able to do that. Not to Commander Shirok, and in the complete honesty of his own self, probably not to anyone. Cahtiz has delayed, mistranslated, and leaked more than enough information in his career to be handed over to the Druids, himself. He has never worked with the Blade directly… as far as he knows. He hopes some of his information has been brokered to them.

Summary
Shirogane Takashi, First of His Name, King of the Realm, Blood Brother of Altea, Sword of Virtue, Black Lion, Protector of the People, and Paladin of the White Goddess, has no idea what he would do without Curtis. He supposes most monarchs have someone like this, a personal servant who keeps them functioning. He has an excellent cabinet, and wouldn’t get anywhere without them, but Curtis… takes care of him.
Shiro was raised in the more austere traditions of the North, and body servants still feel like a decadent luxury, but between the mental stress of keeping a nation together and the physical stress of living with his spellwork arm, he has to concede that he does need them. Help putting it on and taking it off is absolutely necessary, but anyone can do that. Curtis is the one who remembers all the stretches and exercises the court physicians taught him when the arm was new, and it’s Curtis who doesn’t fear him when his nightmares make him wild. Curtis knows exactly how to prepare his bath, and what he would like best to eat, even Shiro doesn’t know, himself.

“Good morning, everyone. I hope you survived the night. Remember, they’re looking for body heat. Wrap up, and cover your fires.”
Shiro has gotten used to that calm, quiet voice, repeating itself in fluent, liquid Spanish every few lines. There are a few people broadcasting, but De la Cruz is closest, and Shiro is glad. A lot of people, even those really trying to help, have fallen into weird religious delusions, or spend hours of air time just crying, or rambling about the horrible things they’ve seen and been through. De la Cruz is always calm. Never freaks out, never panics, not even when he had a revenant burst into the booth. He had politely excused himself, leaving Shiro with his heart in his mouth as the mic picked up the horrible, rattling hissing and shrieking, and the very human grunts of effort and fear, all the sounds of fighting a revenant.
Terrifying stuff to have to just sit and listen to, but then De la Cruz had been back. Just a little out of breath, to inform his listening public that he had not been bitten, and was sorry to cause alarm.

Summary
Even with all the head and heartaches of a secret identity, there are times that Shiro really envies Curtis his privacy. Being Atlas is… incredible, he definitely wouldn’t trade it, it’s just a little conspicuous. The gleaming Altea Towers complex is a pretty nice place to live, it’s just a little opulent for Shiro. It practically gives poor Keith hives, and it’s a lucky thing that Shiro had already had decent credit before everything happened, and could co-sign on a “normal-people apartment” for the kid. Shiro had laughed at hearing it put that way, but it’s not as if Keith is wrong. Aside from the palatial degree of luxury, there’s Altea Industries on the floors below, making his home an unfortunate hybrid of public and private. There’s no way Keith could deal with it.

Ever since they lost those three years, Keith has been certain that Shiro is dead. He must be, he already didn’t have long before he lost out on the Kerebros mission. But when they finally touch down, there he is. He looks older than he should, his jaw is covered with rough stubble that he never would have allowed before, and his hair is shaggy and almost pure white, a little past his shoulders now, with only a streak of black left over one eye. He’s so thin it’s scary, and his strong right arm is an atrophied claw contracted over his chest, the hand settled like it’s holding his heart, but when he sees Keith he beams, the same radiant smile as ever, and he comes running over almost as fast as he used to, left arm pulling Keith into a rough hug.

Curtis has been doing his level best not to be weird about his celebrity crush, but he’s starting to think the guy might actually like him back. He’s still here after close, after all, and his heart skips what feels like several beats when Takashi Call me Shiro, everybody does Shirogane asks him if wants to come upstairs.
“I live over the shop,” he says with a smile, wiping his hands on a dishcloth. “Real old school, I know.”

Summary
Of course Curtis wasn’t expecting this to be seamless. Dating a single parent never is, once things have gotten serious enough to meet the kid, he just can’t help being kind of hurt at how little Keith seems to like him. And confused by all the times the kid does act like he likes him. Very young children aren’t known for their emotional stability, but Keith is confusing even for an almost-five-year-old. It really doesn’t help to have Iverson telling him, ‘and remember: the little bastards can smell fear,’ and advising all-out psychological warfare. His mother of course says to ‘be yourself, mijo, and he’ll come to love you,’ which isn’t much more helpful, in the grand scheme of things.

Yorak really wishes he could communicate more clearly with his human friends. He’s even a human hybrid, it just doesn’t really show. He had come here in hopes of learning more about his roots, and had crash-landed just like his mother, thanks to a combination of equipment failure and the appalling amount of trash in orbit around his father’s world.
Of course, he hadn’t had his mother’s luck, and had been found by brutal representatives of the government rather than a sympathetic private citizen. Restrained, beaten, and fitted with a shock collar, that had been pretty bad. Not the worst he has ever been through, he is a Blade of Marmora, but it had been enough to sour his opinion on his father’s whole species for a while. But within the institution, he had found better humans. Yorak is of course angry as any freedom-loving being taken prisoner, but he understands that the humans around him now are scientists, and are both not authorized to release him, and operating in the pursuit of knowledge.

Curtis never thought he would have this. Obviously having Shirogane Takashi in his arms and in his bed was a pipedream, like any celebrity crush, but even the less ludicrous idea of a big, beautiful Alpha who wants a Beta to bend them over the back of the couch and fuck them until their legs are shaking and all they can do is whimper and moan, even that had been impossible for more than a one-night stand. Those Alphas had slunk away, shame-faced, and anyone Curtis had tried to have a relationship with had never respected any of his desires, and so he had been alone for the invasion, and then of course everyone had been too busy for any of that foolishness, and now… now he has Shiro, bent over the couch and biting onto one of the little throw pillows, powerful thighs trembling weakly as Curtis plunges into the tight, hot softness of his ass over and over.
