“Nope. She’s just swimming in the middle of the ocean.” Finbar whistled, impressed. “Oh, she saw us. And now she’s waving.”
“She also seems to be being chased by some rather aggressive looking pokemon.” Veerle hummed. “She is still waving, though.”
“Yup, a Veluza and a Bruxish.” Finbar winced. “But they can’t seem to catch up to her?”
“What are your orders, captain?” Veerle asked.
“In retrospect, maybe it wasn’t the smartest idea to explore the world by boat without a single water type pokemon.” Dani grimaced.
“Hindsight is 20/20.” Finbar cringed.

Kyana chose to be optimistic about it and believe that the reason she had so, so many signals all over her skin for just how many things she needed to overcome to mature (and get to leave, she almost didn't believe it the first time she was told higher ranking monks got to do that) was just extra details, extra help so her path forward would be clear as possible. She had to be optimistic about it.
Most people have the one soulmate. Another being somewhere in the planescape whose soul was destined to have a deep adhesive contact to your own. Two soulmates is generally uncommon, and anything beyond that is increasingly rare, so the crew of the Per Aspera each having 3 soulmates, and every one of those soulmates being one another, is a one-of-a-kind relationship indeed.

The story largely plays in a Not For Profit Coffeeshop run by Finbar and Elyse, financed and owned by Hira, to give back to the city he lives in (as demanded by the citys administration).

“I have read of the destruction they have wrought, I have seen them regard their worshippers as no better than parasites, and I have concluded that in a seascape of gods and monsters, who can tell the difference between one and the other?” VR-LA didn’t say who he was even asking yet. Would she even hear him? It was rhetorical, both the question that came from his mouth and the one from his mind. He needed no answer.

Princess Kyana had been kidnapped as a baby, and eventually declared dead. Then, finally saved.
VR-LA was adopted by her the queen to be heir.
Finbar saved VR-LA's life by accident, becoming a knight.
Dani was an illegitimate child, eventually taken in to be heir by her uncle who needed a child VR-LA's age.
For now, they have nothing to worry about. They just play around palace. At least, that's how they see each other.
